Our internal customs border between GB and NI is taking shape. From LogisticsUK.
‘NI Border Control Posts
The Withdrawal Agreement outlines that NI will comply with EU regulatory standards (not customs) that builds on current controls.
The BCP at each Port will be tasked to monitor, check paperwork & inspect a % of loads. (A ‘No Deal’ increases that %)
The spec for these new BCPs require appropriate facilities for the testing and storage of SPS products (animal/plant origin).
The BCP will also have an office & staff facilities at each site. This site has unloading bays for 3 trucks & parking for 4. All high spec & modern
BCP plans for Warrenpoint, which in 2019 handled 12% of RoRo movements into NI from GB would indicate Larne & Belfast will require much larger premises to ensure we have sufficient capacity & avoid delays. Larne/Belfast are also the primary routes for JIT food supply chains
The budget for the tender logically indicates Warrenpoint will be the 3rd largest BCP due to volumes & commodities handled.
Tender due for award now.
For logistics & NI supply chains, we need confidence that goods will move easily & legally from 1st January.’
