@Chippy_boy is right, we are moving a bit off topic here sooooooo, to bring it right back to the shit storm we currently find ourselves in right now, I don't think we can answer your question until we know what version of brexit (if any) is coming. No deal brexit, things are just going to get worse as all the indications from Lord Protector Johnson are he's going to turn us into a tax haven. And I don't know Michael Hudson, I'll check him out. Nice one.
The UK turned into a tax haven post no deal is the only way it makes sense to me.
British territories are amongst the biggest tax havens in the would as it is already

And the city of london, we're a bit twatty right here at home. The whole point of brexit is to hand the full set of keys over to them and let them do whatever they want. Mate of mine is a senior exec at Heathrow, so he gets to see all the targeted adverts for people in his profession. We are pimping ourselves out to the world as a tax haven, and most of us don't even know it's going on.

I think if we could get a deal with some kind of altered backstop arrangement, whatever that would be - it would hopefully get through parliment.

If that didn’t get through. then I think the accusation of mps ‘basically not wanting brexit’ would be pretty clear.

We have a parliament at the minute that doesn’t know what it wants and will basically reject anything, without giving any answers to anything

just rename the Backstop the Stopback and send it back to the commons hoping none of them notice?

I’m a remainer and no lefty, but if you believe that these Tories are doing this for the good of the U.K. and all it’s citizens then it is you that is very wrong. They want to create a U.K. that they with their privilege and wealth and those of their class can flourish in nothing more, nothing less. They have been brought up on the playing fields of Eton and retain an empire mentality. They care little for the union that they are risking with their demeanour and behaviours. They care even less about those in the U.K. that are disadvantaged or live in poverty, seeing them as ‘cheap labour’. That Boris is ‘standing up’ for the man in the street vs the establishment is as funny as it is tragic that he is selling that story to some. Johnson is not stupid by any means but he is the most wicked politician we have seen in a long time and if he is allowed to continue down his present trajectory will incite violence.
Fuck me @Saddleworth2

You had a fumbleotomy - that is a proper scary post and hard to reconcile with the claim that you are no lefty.....

Yeah I'm well aware of the city of London and it's goings on.
It's well worth looking into, the corruption is mind-blowing

I'd agree with that. The Singaporean style of UK that was discussed previously could "work". Whether that's the sort of UK people want is another discussion but I could see the economy being successful the EU in the medium to long term if we slashed taxes and regulation.

The problems are two-fold:

1. I don't think most people in the UK do actually want this. The UK is principally fairly middle of the road and values a reasonable balance between moderate taxation and reasonable public services.
2 There's no prospect of a right wing government to implement the policies needed, let alone sustain them for the 10 to 20 years necessary. Even if the Tories got a majority this time (and I can't see that) then surely they'd be kicked out next. We are inevitably going to have a period of fairly left-leaning economic policies over the next few years and that would be an utter catastrophe if we are outside the EU, trying to bring in external investment and compete on price for the sale of our goods and services around the world.

Like I admitted I got carried away with the conservatives and the NHS yesterday, I fear you might be repeating my mistake of going over the top ever so slightly
Fair enough mate - maybe I have.

Genuinely I thought Corbyn was proposing a 70% income tax rate for people earning over £X / year (where X is a big number). Effectively halving the income of the very highly paid. That was the basis upon which I made my comment.

But in searching for links for this, I cannot find any. I can only assume I dreamt it in some recent nightmare. The one with Corbyn wearing a clown's outfit, chasing me with a pointy stick.

Which is why I find most baffling why adamant remainers refuse to support one as a compromise to leaving.
If that's most baffling to you then ....selective myopia? Artificial unintelligence?, but joking aside ( :), guarantee we will not leave and every compromise is in play but that would negate every single brexit intention of escaping EU democracy . And off we go again on the brexit magic roundabout, same old lies same old victimhood ......tickets please, mind the gap, just needs the "We are sorry to announce the brexit excursion to lalaland has been cancelled. This is due to a shortage of passengers and credibility. Thank you for waiting your custom is important to our shareholders.

level playing field with who and what?

Is a school providing education and reinvesting income back into facilities, education and grants/bursaries for disadvantaged pupils the same as a steel works or the local bakery?

Is one harming the other?

What level playing field do you want?

Of course there is harm. Even if it's paid for by parents they're doing it to advantage their children against other children.

Even where merit is supposedly the entry requirement the system is screwed. Trafford has its 11 plus after the summer when affluent parents have had in tutors to make sure their kids have an advantage over other kids. And the schools connive because external tutoring improves their "achievements" so schools in affluent areas appear to "add value" that in reality is down to tutoring outside school.

Is that what we all do as parents?

I pay for Rugby lessons for my lad and dancing for my girls but i dont pay for anyone elses kids do I?

They are only 8 but come the end of secondary school and exams time they will get every spare penny I have spent on them for tutors if they need them to get the required grades and again, i wont be paying for any other kids and yes it will be to give mine an advantage.

That's just evil. How *could* you!

Not sure who it was who challenged me on No Deal Brexiters being like a death cult here's further evidence to back up what was a flippant comment

Jess Phillips has said she received a death threat which quoted Boris Johnson.

“I have had a death threat this week that literally quoted the prime minister and used the prime minister’s name and words in a death threat that was delivered to my staff,” she said, while asking an urgent question in the House of Commons.

The threat read: “To quote Boris Johnson … people like you who don’t support Brexit will be found dead in a ditch’,” Ms Phillips told the BBC.

Maybe some don't take this too seriously but we already have one dead MP and the PM describing her friends kind words about the tone of language as a humbug!!

Be fair, that's misquoting Johnson. He was advocating not murder but his own suicide (or possibly defeat in a medieval battle). Still sounds like a criminal threat by his fan.

And you can carry on with your selfishness.
What selfishness would that be exactly eh Vicky? Wanting to hang on to half the money I earn so I can support my family, meany old me? Or do you have some other "sin" in mind?

A little off topic but phrases like ‘the rich’ and ‘the poor’ are extreme, the vast majority of people in this country don’t fall into either category
Which is why Labour can't get elected on the votes of the Many because it's the poor who are now the Few. Many of the Many are selfish.
