As a bit of an aside, I find it interesting how the layman regards rich city trader types as being money-making, money-grabbing machines. And in particular, they seem to be viewed as if making money is some easy thing that is done without risk.

Of course this is far from the truth. You don't get to make a million by betting a pound! So if a trader wants to bet that the FTSE will drop from say 7500 to 6500 and wants to make £1m, he has to go short to the tune a £1,000 a point. And if indeed it drops to 6500, he makes his £1m. But if it rallies to 8,500, he's lost a cool million. God forbid it goes 9,500!

This is a game for guys with big bollocks. I know I've tried it and my pea sized bollocks could not cut it.

God bless the bravery of the City traders! Such a noble trade.

Yes.

30m people for 1 day each.

or 3m for 10 days each.

or 300k people for 100 days each

or 1.5m for 20 days each.

You get the idea.

i.e. fucking awful.
I'm surprised it was that high but in the grand scheme of things one day a week on strike each year doesn't actually sound that awful.

no excuse for the violence at all. Doesn't mean we are unable to discuss the issue though!

I thought some labour politicians were very aggressive in parliament yesterday, jabbing fingers
One of them brought an incendiary device into parliament.
I thought his head would explode at one point.

I for one hope these brave souls make a success of their endeavours, if they cruelly fall on hard times there will always be a place at the bottom of my garden for them. Actually come to think of it Fuck off I’ve worked for 34 years to own a small garden.

News from The Current Bun’s Tom Newton Dunn.

‘Boris Johnson facing Cabinet revolt to lower his Brexit demands and cut a compromise deal with the EU. I have spoken to three different Cabinet ministers, who are all preparing to confront PM after Tory conference next week. They will insist he accepts an 11th hour compromise offer instead that they expect EU to make. They will also demand he abandons Dominic Cummings’ “aggressive” strategy to bluff out the EU with the threat of No Deal. One of the Cabinet ministers: “The PM has to take what he can get now. The Cummings plan has clearly failed. We can’t fight battles on so many fronts”.

Another Cabinet minister will propose MV4 if no deal agreed by end of EU Council on October 18: “I will tell Boris to put Theresa’s deal back to the Commons if I have to. The numbers are there for it now, everyone is desperate to end this”.

Amber Rudd preparing to stand as caretaker Prime Minister if Boris Johnson toppled by MPs, No10 believes. But Rudd describes it as “total fiction”.’

11th hour compromise offer will come from Merkel...something, something, German car makers something. Although if the offer isn’t made they are going to try MV4 on May’s deal so not entirely sure why Merkel will make an offer in the first place but there you go.
It is what happens when 'even the outside chance' that a no-deal outcome could occur

It has always been true that we would not see movement from the EU unless and until they were faced with the prospect of a viable walk-away option and the political will to use it.....

This viable walk away option you mention just doesn’t exist. A no deal brexit would hurt the UK much, much more than it would hurt the EU. So why would they see it as a threat? Yes it will hurt them but they are much better equipped than we are to absorb it.

It’s just not a viable threat.

Tut tut them hardcore marxist and their riot stances

Not that this clown is my kind of leftie, I do slightly agree that all this shite is going on and the British public just carry on and take it, the french would have burnt down parliament by now ;-)
