'But if there is one thing all unionists need to have seared into their memories from this saga it is our extreme vulnerability at the hands of a much more powerful England that has little attachment to the UK'

pretty much sums it up. not just for N.I, but Scotland too.
You will still reject independence in 2024 though - which says.....?

BBC News in Grimsby on Brexit. I wonder how many are aware in that constituency that in the restricted timescale Johnson wants enshrined in law that the best he can hope for is the very very basics of a trade deal. The EU will look t him giving ground in terms of alignment and things like farming and fisheries could be five years or more away from agreement?

Am going to enjoy watching the scales falling from people's eyes.

Two things:

1. Sorry to offend your sensibilities with 'get over it' - I will genuinely apologise, but also observe that it is just as well that you have not been a Leaver on this forum for these years if you are so easily offended.

2. Sorry - but "....but I'm not wrong....." - give over - how are you qualified to make that statement - clue - you are not
You didn't offend my sensibilities, I just find that particular phrase annoying as hell. As for the second, who knows, maybe I am qualified to make that statement? Time will tell if my prediction is correct or not. As I said, I'll be bloody happy if it isn't because it's going to be a right mess for a significant number of people if it is. This is a no win situation for me, I don't want to be right.

I am guessing here, but the only reason I can think of behind what he's doing is to try to scare the crap out of the EU so they sort everything and put it all in place for him. One of our biggest problems is we don't have the expertise to put these trade agreements in place. It's been done for years via the EU and there hasn't been the need for people to be employed by the government to carry this sort of work out.

If it's done and dusted and over, why are you all still here annoying those of us who are looking beyond the effective but dishonest "Get it done" slogan?

The new slogan is;
Just let it go.

I’ve voted three times against Brexit.

1. The referendum itself
2. Euros recently (2017 GE didn’t count as all parties backed Brexit then)
3. This GE just gone

I think it’s high time I just let it go and I have done just that.

The public want it, the public are getting it and it’s been proven time and again now.

Just let it go is what people should be doing.

Trying to scare and threatening your opponent seldom if ever wins in negotiations. They simply hunker down and let you blow out your storm then come back and explain rationally why our hissy fit won't work. The EU don't want No Deal - however over the past 3 years do you believe they haven't war gamed various Deal scenario's and what No Deal will look like? In the meantime we have had two GE's a government in crisis and a change of PM. Who do you think is in the strongest position?

Mate we are full on crash and burn - of course its done and dusted. However if anyone in a Leave voting or Tory voting ( GE 2019 ) area have zero sympathy for them because whatever they are moaning about they knew what was coming they told us they did and they voted for it. Its their misfortune, they won it and they will have to take the consequences.

It doesn’t mean people should stop questioning what “it” is though. Nor does it mean anyone that disagrees with it fully just accepts it, they absolutely have the right to keep questioning it and fighting against it. Democracy is not just that you have a vote, it is that that vote matters and is listened to whether you win or lose.

A lot of people talk about losers consent. That is only ever properly granted when those opinions are truly acknowledged too. No one has managed it so far with Brexit. May and Swinson went to the extremes and screwed it up straight away as a consequence, Corbyn ended up giving neither group consent. It’s where it’s going to be very interesting to see what Johnson (well, Cummings) does as I do think they understand that more than the other too. It doesn’t mean what we do might change, it’s that the narrative that goes with it will.

The EU, simple as. It's going to go tits up I'm just buckled in now. We were going to move house, that's been well and truly sacked off. Low mortgage and decent equity in the house (just a terrace in lev, but had it a while and house prices have gone daft here), keep it safe etc.

I respect your " I'm alright Jack " view ( although decent equity in the house is dependant on a bouyant housing market which is easily crashed ) I am interested in your evidence - thats proper researched evidence not just your wish - that the EU is going to go tits up. Based upon your detailed research would you therefore propose not even trying to get a trade deal with the EU?
