Antoine Semenyo | Medical at City Thursday - Sky (p230)

If you think that fair enough

I’ve seen Doku stop, check back, pass the ball sideways, backwards, etc on numerous occasions playing for City when he could and should have taken fullbacks and defenders on.

As I said, much less so this season than last season.

Doku has been given a lot more freedom this season to express himself and to attack full backs which is great. When he’s allowed to do that he’s a very exciting and entertaining player who gets the fans excited, and causes defenders constant problems. His final ball and decision making has improved vastly this season as well.

Semenyo and Doku playing like they can play are going to cause defences huge problems.

Back to topic.
“I’ve seen Doku stop, check back, pass the ball sideways, backwards, etc on numerous occasions playing for City when he could and should have taken fullbacks and defenders on”.

As has done every winger, for every club, ever. Got nothing to do with Pep, mate.

Agree though that if we get both of them firing it’ll cause every team problems :) lot to look forward to.

Someone has swallowed the red media's narrative hook, like and sinker.

Who are these attacking players Pep has "stifled"?

I can't wait until he takes the handbrake off Cherki and Haaland! Could get some goals out of those two.
It's a nonsense all based on Grealish doesn't bother me , but for City fans to fall for it is astounding.

MOre than that...it was an excuse created for Grealish to ignore the fact that he was bang average at that pat of the game....h never ever was a Sane/sterling/Doku type wide player.

It was a convenient narrative for the media and opposition fans to create to have a dig.....completely inaccurate and a way of excusing Grealish's bang average ability in this area of the game....he got the protection as he was (at the time) a media darling...

Grealish was a media darling?!! Am I reading that correctly?

I have a theory on Grealish. He was a skilful player who lacked the footballing intelligence to fulfill the tactics of a Pep team. He therefore err on the side of caution. Kalvin Phillips was a more disastrous signing because he lacked the intelligence and the skill set in a more crucial position on the pitch.

That's silly. It doesn't take that much intelligence to get the ball beat a man... shoot, pass or cross.

It just wasn't his game His style helped us keep control but not necessarily attack or opev up defenses.

That's always been my thoughts on Jack, he understood Pep doesn't like losing possesion, but didn't understand Pep wants his players to understand the right time and position to take a risk to make something happen and when to hold and recycle possesion so always went with the second option.

Semenyo will be used exactly how Sterling was. When you unpick his strengths, he’s extremely similar.
Sterling had a great career here. He lacked in front of goal at times which is something Semenyo is not doing, he’s had a good goal scoring record for the past 2 season. Then surround him with better players and a team that’s mostly in possession.

Our biggest issue is the low block. Let’s see how he does against that.

Crazy idea if City are letting him play against Arsenal in hope he scores the winner
If both City and the player want the deal, then get it done and signed off and settle in Manchester
Rather than triggering the release clause, we might be negotiating transfer payments with Bournemouth, hence the delay. It's possible.

He also just lacked the pace and one v one ability to either cut in and take a shot before being closed down, or beat his man down the line. Was literally always a square peg in a round hole.
