Antoine Semenyo

Not sure the packed defences thing still exists tbh mate. Quite a few teams have come and had a decent ding dong with us this season.

Most of the time though once we've managed to slow things down (quite often unnecessarily), the opposition basic setup has everyone back.

You're right that we're less possession focused, but most games we still have the ball a lot and dominate territory as well.

If we were to have Semenyo and stick him wide like we do Sav or Bobb, it might be a bit of a waste. If we let him attack a bit more centrally, care about possession less and just go for it, then I'm all for signing him.

We bought several players in the last transfer window who have experience.
Echeverri and Nypan were the two who may be considered as " projects", the new populist word.
These were sent on loan.
And neither getting decent minutes so nowhere near ready for us.

could be flavour of the month. who remembers Wilfred Bony. prefer to go with someone with longer proven track record and european experience

Didn't feel like we needed him up until recently, but Savinho and Bobb are not progressing in the way I'd hoped. Too early to write either off, but does feel like we need a senior right winger right now. Would further limit Marmoush's minutes though, and possibly also Cherki's so not sure it will happen without someone leaving.

Funny Chelsea just keep buying players and they tell the players the ones they don’t want to go train somewhere else and look for a club! We shouldn’t wait to sell, we should buy the players then the ones left at home will get the message to look for another club! Have a sad face training pitch out the way of happy faces! ;)

Yeah won’t happen!

I'm still very unsure on Semenyo.

He has a great strike on him with both feet, has great pace and has a great physical build, but im not sure if he is the type of player that can adapt in a Pep system.

He doesn't offer much creativity and his final ball isnt the best, his crossing numbers aren't great, he isnt an out and out dribbler and he's not very good in possession. Is he more suited to a team where he exploits more space or will adapt to a team that comes up against a low block 90% of the time?

I'm not too sure.

Doesn't feel like a City signing. I like him, he's a good player, but for Bournemouth. He's a winger that thrives on open spaces to run into on the transition. I'm not sure he has the touch or close control to be effective against a low block. Mind you he has to be an upgrade on Savio.

I'm very much in agreement with you here. This is how I see it.

But it is happening.
Ortega and Philipps nowhere near the squad.
Akanji, Grealish and Gundogan left with little option but to seek gametime elsewhere.

Semenyo at 25 is better than Bobb at 22 and Savinho at 21.

But Bobb at 25 or Savinho at 25 might be much better than Semenyo, arguably Savinho has had a better season already at 19.

So are we patient, or do we want instant results? Moves like this will tell us a lot.

The problem within the project player route is that no matter how promising a young player is, there is no guarantee he will ever fulfill expectation. You could be waiting years and even then it may never happen.

Then you have players like an Olise and maybe a Semenyo, who were not seen as prodigious young talents as much who become late bloomers so to speak and end up having great careers in their primes.

Also, it's not like we are spending £10m or £15m on these young players, we are paying £30m/£40m/£50m for them.

I just think serious teams have one or two projects and the rest are ready to go ready made.

It's teams like Dortmund, Spurs, Atletico who go down the route we are going down at the moment, and because of that you will get inconsistent results.

I don't disagree with the majority of that but I don't think we have that many project players.

Rico, Bobb, O'Reilly [all needed for home grown], Savinho [la liga TOTY at 19], Khus [obviously insane physical attributes]. Seems like a reasonable amount. If we want 24 players then 6 need to be comfortable being on the fringes.

I'd be cautious with Semenyo. It's not like changing teams in the PL is always seamless. Don't think there's much of a fit with how doku and haaland operate either.

Agree with this.

Personally mate, if we are going proven, I want it to be an Olise, or someone similar of whom has done it at CL level.
