Any gas/boiler engineers?

Hi all,

I’ve got an Atag iC28 boiler that’s been in the house about 9 years. Lately, when the central heating kicks in, it runs for around 5 minutes before showing error 117 (overpressure). The pressure gauge reads about 2.3 bar.

If I bleed a radiator down to around 1.5 bar, everything starts working again and it’ll run fine for a while.
Hot water, baths, and showers all work perfectly if I don’t turn the heating on first.

Atag and a few engineers suggested the expansion vessel might be the issue, so I had a service done on Saturday and asked for a recharge. The engineer said the vessel is holding pressure fine and suspects a dodgy pressure or temp sensor causing the boiler to shut off but they didnt give much more information so I don’t know if they just don’t know what they are doing or it’s difficult to diagnose exactly.

He recommended I contact Atag for advice, which I’ll do when their support opens today.

A few other engineers have also said the iC28 might be undersized for my house, it was a rental before I bought it, and since moving in I’ve added an en-suite shower and a bath, and replaced all the radiators with triple panels, so it’s probably working pretty hard which can’t be helpful or efficient.

So I’m torn: should I keep going with the current boiler and try replacing the sensor or whatever the part might be or just bite the bullet and upgrade to a bigger one (around 35kW)? Worcester seems to get the best reviews, but the likes of Ideal is a lot cheaper.

Any thoughts or experiences would be appreciated!

Bricks, back door, petrol, insurance. I think that about covers the usual BM advice for this type of thing.

Swapped my old boiler for a new glow-worm 35l last year. Heats my terraced house easily and cost £1800

I've got a Worcester Bosch. Had a few in the past but generally useless. Only Worcester Bosch engineers work on Bosch boilers. Very happy with mine now.

When I said had a few in the past that were useless,I meant boilers but not Worcester Bosch boilers. The other makes were crap, especially a Vaillant I had. Just thought I should clarify that.

I have a issue that the overflow tap is constantly dripping.
The hot water / heating are working fine.
However the combi boiler is over 20 years old..
