Firstly the lives lost on that day were no more important than any lives lost on any other occasion, I really don't see why you would think Utd fans think they were? Yes there have been many tragedies and deaths in the world where more have died, if all were commemorated there'd be no time for football. Instead the ones relevant to your own club are remembered. For instance I wouldn't expect City to have a minutes silence for Munich at Eastlands, but you have them for your players who pass away and rightly so. These occasions are relevant to your club and as such should be remembered by your club as part of its history. Had the away support recently sang about the late great Neil Young passing away would
you have appreciated that and laughed sbout it? What is your formula for deciding when death becomes funny, 1 year, 5 years, 50 years perhaps, and how does the maths work? As a human being I don't find death amusing, I'm surprised others do.
The Utd fans who sung about the suibmarine were wrong to do so, as are the minority who make reference to Hillsborough or Foe. I suppose every club has scum following it as well as decent human beings. At least I will admit that rather than try to justify it. Your point about there not being many there who are connected to the event is also slightly strange. Why are young City fans educated about the days of Bell, Sumerbee and Lee? Surely great players are of no significance if the fans weren't around then to see them and as such should be forgotten? Surely City's honours mean nothing to those who are too young to remember them by that logic? Or maybe a clubs history can indeed be cherished by younger supporters and as such the death of a team means something to those people. I personally know 4 people going who were teenagers at the time and there will be many more in attendance including Bobby Charlton. Perhaps you can enlighten me on the number of people in attendance that would make Munich songs acceptable and how you come to that number?
As for the club treating the families of the deceased badly, I think Utd fans would agree with that. Bad decisions were made and that was wrong, don't know what else you would expect me to say on that? For any person whether they be red or blue to find death amusing saddens and disgusts me, as do those who try to justify it. My words unfortunately won't change them, that's the way the world is. This post isn't intended to reflect many on here who are decent human beings with compassion. There will be a minority reading this who don't agree and think it's a funny thing to do, that's their choice and upto them.
And:
I do agree that United have always used Munich as a money spinner, even on the 50th the other year they shamelessly had AIG printed in big letters at the bottom of the memroial banner. But Frank Swft is as much a club legend as Neil Young and we wouldn't sing sInge about cancer. The Swift family live in Northenden and are still City fans. What do people think they think to us singing songs about it?!
danburge82 said:Anyway back to the topic; I'd hope to hear some David Silva songs tomorrow. We've gone seven months with no more than a murmur and a mumble of one by a few dozen at a few away games. He got a half hearted standing ovation last week (when I thought he was man of the match) after at least 6-7000 fans had fucked off home by the 86th minute. I think he deserves more from us!
