Exactly, Swales made them sell him. He was our most valuble player at the time and we were broke as usual.
Wish we had Clive now, we wouldn't have to sell him.
I rate him up there with the likes of Lakey, Barnes, Owen, SWP etc, etc... as one of the best players we ever produced.
Did we sell him to finance the Paul Stewart deal? Gutted when he went.

Clive was my favouite City player of his era. Classy, skilful anf fast. Great in midfield and left back.

Great player, i was absolutely gutted when he went to Chelsea.
Never heard my Dad swear as much before as he did the day he left, heard him plenty more over the last 20 years mind.

That was how i remember Clive leaving the club as well. I'm pretty sure we had to sell Clive to get the 250,000 to buy paul stewart from blackpool.
Was well pissed off when he left. Clive was a great player, who was just as good midfield or in defence, really skillful and a true blue.
