They pissed it away? Who and how?

Every fucker. The bankers, the politicians, the 'let's get credit' crowd who had no means to pay it back.
That was my pension they were fucking with. But it's ok, we are just Civil Servants who everyone hates anyway.
You haven't the faintest clue what you are on about Mackenzie.
No one pissed away you pension. A commitment was made when you signed your contract but it is now impossible to meet that commitment as people are living longer, you really must try and get your head around that. Your money was never there, sat in a pot and self sustaining. PS pensions never have been.
It's a bit like the problems in the private sector where there are problems with the pension pots also. All because WE ARE LIVING LONGER. It's such a simple concept that I am shocked you are struggling with it.

Well, the commitment was on both sides. I took a lower paid salary for my capabilities because there were certain understandings on both sides as to the extra benefits long term. Perhaps, now that they have reneged on that, they'd like to reimburse me for the misunderstanding of the last 31 years?!
I understand that people now live longer and that we have an bigger ageing population to support, hence my having no problem working an extra 7 years.
I also have no problem with the pay freeze imposed on us for several years. I understand the country was in a mess financially and was more than happy to do my bit.
What I do get pissed off with though ( and I acknowledge that anyone outside of the public sector will not have the same mindset) is that we are invariably the whipping boys when it comes to Governments. We are deemed to be an easy target and a vote winner because of the bile spouted by the media. We are almost a political plaything, yet we witness the sheer waste of millions and millions of pounds of taxpayers money on shit IT systems, stupid half baked processes and interference in the way we deliver our services.
And that, trust me, makes my blood boil.
