Are City really ruining football?

You can see what's going on here. With the news now coming out that the liverpool vs Chelsea game could be in danger if we do (and it's a big if) go on and beat Arsenal. You can see the narrative that will go on and on for weeks. Every newspaper every radio station (talksport) will play to the tune of this. "Are Man City ruining our once loved game of football?"
IT IS ALL YOU HAVE LEFT!!

Its a bit disingenuous to include players with no appearances at other clubs and not include Cole Palmer, Torres, or even (unfortunately) Mendy.

I think the general point people make is the depth of our quality in our squad rather than quantity. You don't see a drop off when there is rotation.

My only point would be we manage the rotation slightly better, so aren't as reliant on a small number of players (but we would struggle without Rodri, Dias, and Walker/Cancelo for a considerable period).

These are the premier league squads that don’t include I think u21s hence why Palmer is not listed for City and others such as Morton for Liverpool are not.

what this proves is City don’t have some sort of mammoth squad with players stock piled.

We have 17 players registered in the 25 Prem slots. (Ok 18 if we include Mendy, 19 with Torres).

what it shows is we have bought smartly and not kept senior players who aren’t playing either. United with 4 senior goalkeepers - De Gea, Henderson, Heaton and Lee Grant. Or look at Liverpool for instance, keeping Nat Phillips as 5th choice defender when he’s 24, or that lad they bought from Preston last January Ben Davies at 27 and is now loaned out to Sheffield United.

Just another made up stick to beat us with. It is clear we operate with a small versatile squad and those not ready are either loaned out or sold for profit if there is no current pathway. They are not just kept hold off for the sake of it.

Not sure it is. I listened to a radio program yesterday where the football pundit said city can afford injuries and covid because of the size of our squad. There's Deffo a myth out there that we have more actual players.

Not only that, we buy zinny or Cancelo or whoever (just like lfc would buy minamino Shaquiri etc) but then Pep turns them into the players they are, squad players that usually become first teamers. Klopp uses his purchases as backup to (what feels like) the first 11.

I bet pep has used more squad players than lfc / anyone, I think he's revolutionised squad management tbh

This point may already have been made but arguable we’ve forced the Dippers and Chelski to improve Tina standard where they’ve won the Champs League. Hopefully, we will join them as CL winners before long.

We play brilliant football but also set a benchmark to maintain the sharpness of the team throughout fixture congested seasons. We took our foot off the gas for half an hour against Brentford that hopefully leaves enough in the tank to get a result against Arsenal. Similarly, we tend to change 3, 4 or 5 players during peak season games rather than bring tired players off after 70 or 80 minutes. That also seems to maintain our sharpness.

Without looking into it in depth, there are a couple of United players out on loan listed in that (and have been all season) so wouldn't be on the PL squad list (if thats a thing). The twitter user states they have compiled the list themself. I can see a couple in each list that I dont think have made a single appearance.

We've got a similar squad size to the others. Ours has quality spread more evenly, and we utilise it more effectively.

City's squad was undeniably bigger and bloated in the Hughes/Mancini era, but this has slowly diminished over a period of time, and it's now United who suffer from peripheral discontented squad members such as Martial, Jones, Lingard, and Mata.

I don't recall much media sympathy when Laporte and Sane both missed 2019-20, and similarly I now view every Liverpool and Chelsea injury as an advantage to City.

Whether City are ruining football is one of those perennial fabrications whereby nobody can actually say why, and I'm starting to believe that Guardiola is deliberately not buying anybody (and probably won't even replace Fernandinho when he retires) just to make a point.

However, I also believe that despite the latest bollocks, the media's attitude is slowly softening towards City, especially as a whole new generation have only ever known the club to be successful.
Eventually, it will be counter productive to publish so many anti-City articles.

Whilst Liverpool fans and other fans are talking about the overwhelming size of City’s squad and the advantage that gives City in the title race. In reality, if this list is correct?

Thank you and I do believe that is correct. So much for us having 'the biggest squad'....
