Are expensive headphones REALLY worth it?

So I'm after some sony wh-1000xm4 headphones, but they are £250. My issue is i already have some decent highly rated headphones that cost around £60. My primary use for them is watching films and want as good as sound quality and bass as possible, but will the sonys really be that much better than my £60 ones?

I have some cheaper Sennheiser ones and some more expensive, and more modern, Bose ones. The difference is night and day - comfort, noise cancelling, depth of sounds, all noticeably better.

I'd suggest looking around though as there will absolutely be some good cheaper sets out there, but I'm afraid I'm no expert.

Any chance you can go to richer sounds or some good hifi shops and compare them? - take yours along.
I'd expect a huge difference between a £60 pair.

What are you listening to them through?

At this price point, you might get more benefit from a DAC.

The concept of diminishing returns applies to all audio stuff.

I have Sony 700n they are OK but not as good as the wife's Sennheiser ones. Not sure of the model of them. They were circa £170. Mine were £80 but just looked and are £100 now.

I'd look into the reviews.

I wish I could, I dont have a richer sounds anywhere near me. I could buy them and if I'm not impressed send them back, but I feel bad for doing that tbh

I've got the wh-1000xm3 that I picked up when flying at Manchester Airport... My lad has the wh-1000xm4 and I don't hear much difference

If you're not precious about getting the latest version then you should be able to grab a bargain

Well the latest version is the xm5s, only £50 more, but my main query is will they be so much better than my £60 pair.
