Are extension leads dangerous?

Anyone know?I mean i've 2 or 3 of the 4 socket ones that are left in pretty much 24/7 for the last 5 years,for the tv/phone/xbox etc.

Are these safe enough to use constantly?

Are they fuck. I'm a fireman and my advice is get more walls.

Don't you need planning permission for that?;)
