Are pundits necessary?

I've been watching the Arse v palace game on mute

Palace have just scored, so i turned the sound on, and the INCREDIBLY dull Alan Smith said "out of the blue, that one"

A quick look at MATCH STATS said
Attempts
Arse 3
Palace 5

Why is it out of the blue, and why is the dullard getting paid?
Chemical Alan.

Agreed..level of insight particularly from ex british and Irish players is woeful. Pundits on City's games.. they roll out the biggest anti City pundits they can find..Shay Given for example.. makes the games unbearable
Given is definitely a prick. Deffo pen yesterday. Fuck off you terd.

Stopped watching the pre-match nonsense and started switching off at HT years ago.

Football is much more enjoyable now.

I just think pundits are mostly thick so I don't want to listen to their views.
I record most matches about 20 minutes behind so I can fast forward the bollocks at half time and watch it in mute.

The best thing for the commenters is the volume button works every time for me.so much more enjoyable

Of course they are. What do you want, for the show to start on kick off? It doesn’t work like that. I enjoy the build up to games, mainly MNF when they go through the weekends games.

Just don’t take it too seriously.
It does work like that with the channel I watch. They don't have the rights to show any pre game, half time talk or post game.
The only time I have to listen to pundits is when I have to find a dodgy stream for cup games.

Not really. There seems to be too many around. It's all about who can sound the smartest out the lot and if you cannot do that then you got to have a personality.

I'd rather read fans opinions on footy forums than listen to the "experts" being paid 1m quid a year.

Lineker Mr inoffensive cheesy jokes
Shearer mundane shite
Micah be as loud as you can
Neville sound articulate as can be
Carragher act all animated with gestures to sound smart
Henry state the obvious without drawing attention
Keane deadpan obvious delivery.
Wright Mr Jester
Sutton just make controversial comments every 2 mins to be cool
Savage act thick (normal)
Clinton Morrison act even dafter (normal)
Keown defend Arsenal

Etc

The only one I like listening to is Simon Jordan. He's never been a footballer and he always gives an opinion like most paying fans/armchair fans do. I quite like his business sense of mind towards football.

Alan Smith was like the bladdered corporates asked to pick a man of the match.

"Who's your man of the match Alan?"
"Oh Mateta for me!"

He came on in the 80th minute!!!!!!!!!
Yeah he scored but it's not like the game was 0-0 and nothing had happened!

The guy is stealing a living!

Oh and Merse has just said about Arsenal: ""The next two games against PSG are huge, they're absolutely huge"
Thanks for that incite. I wouldn't have known that, had a former professional player not pointed it out!

Aluko isn't necessary, she seems to think broadcasters don't want her because she is a woman. Someone should let her know its because she has the personality of a bucket of sand and is a crap pundit.
She’s piped up today about Ian Wright getting too much air time in the women’s game.

ahh pundits...only a couple of adjectives and phrases to master, and you are farting thru the MOTD sofa for years...

anythindg slightly better than average is...'Magnificent'
slightly worse than average is a...'disgrace'

However if you have some affiliation with the team/player involved, disgrace can be mitigated with...
'he'll be disappointed with himself there' or
''thats just frustration'...maybe followed with ' he just needs someone to put an arm around him''

other acceptable terms

''amazing''
'iconic''
' should have done better'
whwre are all the leaders.

There is FAR too much coverage, discussion, and analysis about football these days.

In the social media age you can get wall-to-wall coverage of almost any aspect of the game, endless opinions from pundits, dickhead fans, influencers, YouTubers and knobheads online every time you get your phone out.

I recently unfollowed the couple of city accounts on my social media and many of the players (who let's be honest these days add nothing of any substance, its just their management agencies posting training photos each day and what outfit they turn up to training in). Instead I'll check in on the city news periodically each day when on my own accord.

I think part of the reason football was more exciting as a kid was because it was a weekend treat, and something to look forward to. These days with relentless coverage there is no novelty or nothing new to discuss when the weekend actually comes around. Total over-saturation of football.

So no pundits are not needed these days, especially outside of actual game coverage

TV companies pay a fortune to televise football, so they want to maximise what they've paid for

However, commentators should concentrate on commentating, not throwing their opinion in. The commentator should invite the expert in for their brief analysis of a situation or piece of play, not chat inane bollocks and bantz and only one "expert" during the game, not two or even three when they invite a ref for his opinion
There also should be the option to mute the commentary and just have the crowd noise

As or the pre and post match stuff, they can carry on with that till the cows come home as I never watch it, and at half time I always find something to do like unload or load the dishwasher or crack one out

They are unemployable and wouldn't get a job elsewhere. Should stick to property management or running a pub. The only one I ever liked was the lad on Football Italia, James Richardson, who wasn't a washed up ex-pro. Where would Carragher and Co be without TV? Keane isn't bad but he plays the grumpy villain well enough to be in panto but TV pays more.

The only pundits ever I listen to are whoever is doing the match commentary on the City OS. It's usually Ali Mann and a former player (Paul Lake, Michael Brown, Andy Morrison...). It's zero BS and usually objective.

I think they are useful for lonely souls with no mates who fill the gap by fantasising that the pundit banter is something that they are part of.
