are we wasting this window?

If Top 4 is a huge priority this season, why employ a "stopgap"?

Please tell me, after all that has happened and been said, that you're not going to try and argue that the top 4 is not the target.

because the man we want isn't available until the summer?

But surely changing the manager just to bring a stop gap in for 6 months is far more disruptive to the immediate goal of top 4 this season?

Basically, i'd be amazed if Mancini is a stop gap and will be in a job unless he completely fucks up the opportunity. I think he's here for the long haul in the owners mind, and as such the lack of big signings is his decision, not Khaldoon and Mansours.

What part of my post gives you that idea?

Stop gap means he is warming the seat until the summer, regardless of position. People are using this as the reason for the lack of spend.

Hughes cocked up big time with Cruz and Lescott..........£18 M and £24 M for the pair...................

The owner must think what is going on, a guy who has had 1 game albeit a very good one and looks injury prone and the other who has been at the heart of a shaky defence........and who too looks massively overpriced............

While there are plenty opf others who know more than me about Mancini's contract, i'm with Project on this one.

If he was a 'stop-gap' and Jose was coming regardless of any success Mancini may get us, i believe this would have been a more public situation, like in the case of Gus H at Chelsea as an official stop-gap.

Hughes would not imo have got us top4 this season, i assume that this was the opinion our owners had too.....

Disruption was the only way of ensuring the goal remained achievable.

As I have stated in the other thread I have always wanted Jose to manage City, I am though mightily impressed with Bob's first few weeks and think that if we get top4 and maybe a Cup then it is going to be a very strange summer....

I know what stopgap means.

Stopgap means a 6 month get out clause.
Stopgap means an assistant manager from within the club
Stopgap mean no lengthy contracts for your own backroom staff
Stopgap means not relocating your family
Stopgap means not spending big in January
Stopgap means no lengthy contracts for expensive players with no future.

Top 4 is the target. Of that there is no doubt.

Do you think Roberto has twigged he's a stopgap?

Stop gap means Mancini's talk of 6 months + three was bullshit.

What is more likely is that he has 6 months to prove he is not a stopgap by making the top 4. If he does that, he isn't a stopgap. You can say that Mancini has a 6 month probation period to reach the top 4 - but if the condition of making it is that he keeps the job, then it's incorrect to say he is a stopgap. There's a huge difference between a probation period and keeping the seat warm for Mourinho. My view is that Khaldoon thinks Mancini IS "the one", but as he is new to managing in this country lets just see how it goes first. The idea that we won't fund Mancini if he wanted a certain player in when his objective is to reach the top 4 is quite frankly absurd.

Believe what you want mate but you haven't countered a single one of my points, except a vague and incoherent defence of what you call the "probation" period.

If we finish top 4 it's going to be difficult to do anything but keep him on, I accept that.
