Reasons not to be shocked...

1. We lost again away from home.

2. We had the core of our midfield and our best striker out injured

3. We were playing against a top quality team, unbeaten with their new manager.

4. Mike Riley.

We didn't deserve antything out of the game really. Robinho tracked back quite a bit more. Ireland was off his game. SWP didn't do much. Elano started pretty well but faded, and really pissed me off walking down the tunnell at the end.

I actually thought our defence played well today. Bridge had a decent game as well. I'm not pleased by any means, but I'm quite happy it was only 1-0!

It was only a lapse on that one set piece that cost us in the end, and we'd probably be raving about a terrific defensive performance by all the team if Essien wouldn't of shinned the ball in! Who knows, with Bellamy, De Jong and Kompany it could of been different. I hope Hughes has words with Elano though, I mean even Robinho doesn't think he's too good to be subbed. Etuhu looks a lot stronger when he came on, and Boj looked handy. An away win is still a possibility, although I'm not sure where or when it's gonna come.

Fair post, sums it up well.

I'm not shocked at all ...... i expected us to lose today.

But the manner in which it happened is very disappointing to say the least ...... at a free kick you have to mark up properly , and for some strange reason Zabaleta at first started to do it right , then inexplicably changed direction and left Essien in acres of space to score ....... Givens must have wondered what the fuck was going on , and we really asked to concede that!

Schoolboy defending for their goal and Chelsea really should have scored more. Think it's unfair to single out Elano and Robinho, they can't carry the team by themselves. Ireland, SWP, Zabaleta, Caicedo, etc were just as bad. Midfield was static and nowhere to be seen at times and Chelsea were first to everything. We could have played for 180 minutes and we wouldn't have scored today. Wouldn't have minded the loss as much if we'd just put in a half-committed performance, but it was shocking.

Anything connected with the attacking side of our game today was poor. But as has been said before its one thing to have a poor game but it's another not to put much effort in and one or two didn't.

so you rather us lose 6-0?

the fact is defence-wise we were good for everything except the goal. attack-wise, well some players are to blame and the absence of kompany and de jong meant ireland/elano didn't have as much freedom going forward.

If this was Sunderland/Stoke/Hull/Brom then I'd be pissed but as it isn't no I'm not all that agrivated. It was quite clear that we needed to dig deep in our attacking but we just didn't we had a few good chances and blew them. It was also quite clear that Chelsea's back four is not a pushover either as most had a hard time even attempting to shake them to get into the box. I think Caicedo should have scored and that was our best chance of the game. However concidering the points I am pleased although I was hopping we would have shown up and come away with a win but realistically a draw was possible.
