I don’t envy the Police one bit. It’s such a sensitive area, with potentially tragic consequences, and I wouldn’t like to be taking those sorts of decisions.

Where it’s 50/50 or even 40/60, I would err on their side.

That said, they do need to be held accountable for operating to high standards. Anything else would not only be unethical but would also undermine public confidence.
