Arsenal (H) - Post Game Thread

You need to go on and win the league now to justify coming with a 0-0 game plan. However, having seen what happened to you previously I totally understand the approach.

You definitely need to win the league now though.
I'm actually very surprised by the Arsenal approach today, They had the league title in their hands at 2pm today, Come 6:30pm it's now out of their hands.

We were missing basically our whole back line and goalkeeper and they came today for a draw for some reason.

If they fail to win the league I'm sure this game they'll look back on and be saying "What the fuck was Arteta doing?".

So the dial square fc fans from Woolwich south landan sang to us, s**t ground no history. Funny that as we were formed about 6yrs before them and won our first major trophy 26yrs before them. Strange that innit!
Shame they didn’t turn up on beast of the east night at home. The most gutless shocking turn out of any fan base.

Considering we had a much changed defence i was expecting Legohead to be more ambitious , today was the reason you will not win the title , we were there for the taking and you bottled it , a draw was a shit result for both teams ,but your lot will never have a better chance of winning at the Etihad resulting in building confidence to win the title.Because of the Champs league for both clubs and our FA Cup commitments much as i hate to say it , its advantage Dippers, they only have the Thursday night cup which they can win with their reserve team
Maybe. But even with the missing players (and it's not like you had to bring Harry Maguire on) City have world class players everywhere. I'm sure Arsenal wanted to be more expansive but we couldn't get through your midfield, Rodri was just impenetrable. Playing the Dippers was much easier than City, even at Anfield we had far more chances.

Today we defended well, we still had 3 attackers on but we just couldn't activate them as you also defended really well. It is what it is, if you can't win then don't lose. Whether we should have had more ambition, we're playing the best team in the world at their own stadium, not West Ham! Regardless of how we'd played a point was I think the maximum we could get.

I know I’m in a minority - but I quite enjoyed that. It was a competitive match between two teams who were each looking for the moment that would make a difference ~ neither managed it and in the end Arsenal we’re needing to defend much more than us ~ but there was always the potential jeopardy of a breakaway and a couple of moments where they almost managed it ~ but our defending was good enough to snuff that out. I’d much rather the tension of a game like that than an easy 5-0.

Our attacking wasn’t as fluid as normal - but part of that was Arsenal’s ability to mark closely and close down the passing channels. We tried to pull them out of shape but they rarely were and when the ball broke loose it never quite did in a way that allowed us to take advantage.

Referee was strange, he saw and gave the fouls, he didn’t fall for most of the dives -but he was clearly determined not to book anyone and that meant Arsenal could continue to foul without fear of further jeapody. But he was consistent so City players who on other occasions might have been booked, also weren’t.

So, yes disappointing not to win - it certainly gives Liverpool a big advantage and we need both to slip up without doing so ourselves - if we can manage that it’s going to be great end on season.

Doku is been poor by missing easy chances for the past few games.
The whole team is missing easy chances , not sure why Doku is a target for many fans on here , he is a kid in his first season and very much considered potential and not the finished article , your angst would be more justified towards Haaland ,Bernardo and a couple of other more experienced players.

From the 6 games we have played against the other teams in the top 5, we have got 4 points.

That is where the title will be lost.

Apart from Liverpool who we are equal with we are down 3 points with Arsenal, and currently 3 down with Villa.

To turn things around we have to beat Villa on Wednesday and Spurs when we go to WHL.

He fluffed one opportunity for a shot but today's loss (draw) wasn't his fault
Exactly, when did we become a fan base that doesn’t give a new signing in his debut season time, BM is becoming more and more aggressive against our own players, it’s crazy because they give there all most of the time

Celebrated way too early, we keep telling you!

Exactly.

Trophies aside, We've never had a team that worked this hard for us, They put absolutely everything into games. That alone is good enough for me.

The result didn't concern me today, the
lack of any intensity, especially in the last 10 minutes of a must win game, really did worry me.

Something ain't right at the moment, not sure what it is, but we don't look like champions.

Games like today are made for the plan B of playing direct to Haaland and yet we chose to try anything but that. People will slate Erling, but you don't buy an F1 car and then complain when it can't go off road. Carry on freezing him out of games and he will be off sooner than expected.

Nobody says we have to become a long ball team, but now and again it can work, especially when it's a better option than the endless stodge served up today.

The fans definitely turned up for this game and did us proud, the players on the other hand, didn't.

The season isn't over but we seriously have to get some intensity in attack, and quickly

How does a false 9 open up a parked bus?

Traditionally the false 9 helps break down a parked bus by dropping in between the defensive and midfield lines of the opposition. Even if those lines are only 5 years apart this means either a centreback has to follow them, taking a man out of the defensive line, or the defensive midfielder has to follow them, freeing up one of your attacking midfielders.

Our problem is much more to do with width. We’re making teams defend a 40m wide penalty box instead of the whole 65m width of the pitch.

That’s because we have no attacking fullbacks and our left winger wants to be a 10.
