It's the free transport that annoys me most.
If you are over 60 and live in Scotland,Wales,N.Ireland or London you get free transport.
Yet if you live in Greater Manchester you don't qualify until you are 66.
That is so discriminatory and profoundly unfair.
I'm surprised that no one has challenged it in court.
Having just turned 66 I've been riding the rails for naught for more than a year. You've got to be fucking around. Thought you bastards were better than that

I see by your profile info that you are based in the USA.
What is the state pension age in The States, and what other benefits are you entitled to when you reach state pension age??

In the USA, social security (federal) can start as early as 62. You can choose to wait on taking it till anytime after that, the earlier you take it, the lower your monthly #. Private pensions are a different thing, I retired from school teaching at 60, after 35 years at that point I took all of my pension and placed it into two tax-free annuities to pay me every month.
As far as senior benefits are concerned, public transit is free within the Philadelphia metro area, interstate travel is about 1/2 of the regular adult fare. Most supermarkets have a seniors day where if you show your card you get up to 20% off your bill, the same in most restaurants. All in all, senior benefits here are pretty good, I'm glad I've been around long enough to qualify, I guess it beats the alternative.

I used to help my Dad on his UCD milk round on Higher Crumpsall when 'D day 'happened.
I learnt the virtues of patience and understanding trying to explain the new decimal currency to the old dears on the milk round.
Ah yes. February 15th 1971. I remember it well.
I was a cashier on the counter at Nat West , Gorton, on that fateful day.
The people who had the greatest problems with this new-fangled money "thingy" were the same people who taught future generations how to handle, add, subtract, multiply or divide this new currency.
That's right - TEACHERS! They couldn't get the hang of it at all. Every day was a steep learning curve for them.
Just over 50 years on, and I till remember pounds, shillings and pence!
Oh, and City had a good team then.
Plus ça change.......
