'As A City Fan', Would You Like To See Safe Standing Introduced At The Etihad?

I think actually some models are your season ticket is for the stand not the seat and you stand where you want, for cup games in the same area you are allocated a seat.

so if you had a 9000 standing area with 6000 ST holders that when converted to seating held 5000 and only 4000 season ticket holders in the safe standing area were on the cup scheme they would get priority seating lets say and the rest would have to buy where ever
You may be wasting your time. He's made his mind up I think.

No. I see no point in standing. If everyone stayed sat down when the ball goes in the box they can see just as well if not better.

Who on earth wants to stand on their feet for nigh on 2 hours.

Really strange post. When I was a kid, I would not go in Platt Lane or Main Stand, even sometimes when someone offered a ticket. It was always the Kippax, if I had any choice about the matter. I much preferred to stand, and I much preferred the atmosphere. Now at the age I'm at now, no, I probably wouldn't do it. Perhaps the odd game, just to see. But there must certainly be younger people who'd like to stand. We're talking about a few thousand people being able to do it, organised in such a way that they won't be in anybody's road. What's not to like?

I prefer to stand at games and think safe standing would encourage more supporters to sing louder. Teachers at school used to ask pupils to stand up when they wanted school singing to improve.

It's a yes from most I would imagine, it's safer than standing in seated areas for a start. ITs all choice if you buy a standing ticket then that's what you get. However the issue will be that there will people standing in seated area's this could cause problems especially with the stewards . We need standing but there must be enough not a token amount. I would now probably sit given my age. BUt at least I have the choice maybe we could have standing behind each goal lower tier with some less vigerous stewarding for certain seating blocks behind.

nothing strange in the post at all. I just prefer to sit down and that's it. I'm not arsed because it would only ever be on level one anyway which I wouldn't be affected by. I sing just as loud sat down as I do standing anyway.

Used to stand every game, home and away in the 80s.

Too old for it now, but if it means avoiding the idiot who sits behind me at home games, then I might be prepared to give it a go.

Lower tiers only - for H & S reasons only, of course. I can't stand up for 2 hours these days, not like when I were a young 'un in the Kippax.
I now sit in EL304 so it wouldn't affect me, but if you want to stand, why not?

The last away match I went to (apart from the COC final) was Everton away last season. I was in the top tier and missed some of the match because 2 or 3 times I had to sit down for a short break - everybody was standing throughout the match. I won't go there again.

As somebody who has been told off twice this season for standing up while we take a penalty (they're not elderly near me either, just miserable gits who want to pretend they're at the cinema) I would certainly welcome the idea of a standing area, then those who prefer to sit will be happy and we'll each have our own section and everyone will know where they stand (no pun intended)

I would love to see safe standing introduced at The Etihad. I'd go as far as to say it's the only thing that will make a significant, long-term difference to the atmosphere at home games. If people were able to stand with their mates, like in the old days, you'd see a big improvement in the noise generated.

I'd glad the club seem to be backing proposals for the reintroduction of standing. It seems ridiculous in the 21st century that people cannot stand up to watch football if you so desire.

It'd be great if, say South Stand Level 1 was converted into terracing.

I'm just listening to Blue Tuesday and Ian Cheeseman is saying that when he spoke to people at City he was told that although they didn't want to give an official comment on it, the club are very keen and he mentioned being one of the first to take it up or possibly being a pilot program.

Showing a remarkable lack of empathy there Bill. You really can't understand why some people might want to stand? And you actually think nobody should be allowed to stand because you like to sit.

But so long as you're fine.

its up to them mate of course. i prefer to sit down, comfy like.

as for your line "as long as you're fine" perhaps you should relate that to people who do stand, do block others view and who do break the law as it stands at this time.

but as long as they are fine.

An improved atmosphere will not be an automatic by-product of safe standing.

It will be a combination of factors, including :
:Targeted marketing at existing, willing fans & young & displaced/disaffected former fans. The club must target and re engage with this group.
:Very affordable,reduced ticket prices.
:Mates rates allowing groups of lads to buy in groups & stand together......etc,etc

I'd be in favour of converting South Stand L1 plus the Kippax & Colin Bell corners AND North Stand L1 when the extension is undertaken.
The family stand could be relocated to NS L2 with NS L3 available for newbies who want to sit.

Everyone's a winner........??

100% for it as it seems to work very well at Dortmund and Celtic. Re getting groups of friends to stand together, how does that work, as my understanding is that you're still allocated a "seat"? Presumably the club would take requests initially to try and get people together? Good to see that the club is receptive to the idea.

That's good to know, thanks for posting this.

I understand there's many Blues who prefer to sit, and not cheer, that's their choice.
I'm young and still fit, I remember as a little kid being taken on the terraces and when we scored it would sway around, often I could feel the stand moving, with everyone bouncing and free to stand with their mates.
Great memories of my Dad rushing to grab me straight after we scored so that I wouldn't get trampled on by everyone haha.

I want to be in an area that's bouncing, everyone singing, amongst like minded people... Just like away games.
