Aston Villa Thread | 2025/26

Let’s hope it’s all over by the time we play Villa at home on the last day of the season. I couldn’t do another title decider on the last day of the season, especially if we lost the title to Villa at the Etihad. Hypothetical ATM, but possible.
I would absolutely take having to beat Villa at home on the last day to win the title.

The title race is so much better when there are 3 or 4 teams fighting each other. Villa are the dark horse that everybody says will drop off and fade away ? Yeah we have seen this before with Leicester City didn't we

Villa probably have the 2nd best manager in terms of winning trophies after Pep and City, so they have to be respected and taken seriously and they are flying at the moment

Only a fool would totally discount them. As you say, they've got a very astute manager. Only thing that could be an issue for them would be the size of their squad. I'm not sure it's the biggest out there. A couple of injuries to key players could be a challenge for them.

The thing will be there next losing league game and can they bounce straight back ? Arsenal vs Villa is such a big game on Tuesday so let the dog see the rabbit

I'm surprised, going by squad depth, that they want to send Harvey Eliot back to liverpool.

He did his homework yesterday . Chelsea's young side are in the habit of falling off a cliff after an hour so he brings on three players who can change the game . Managers did the same against us last season when our legs had gone....

Yes, there are plenty of both sorts but none of the latter are in my orbit. I realise you can’t always choose who you work with, but wherever possible I try and avoid having people like that in my life, as they are sinfully tedious and life is too short.

Most of the Villa fans I know personally would definitely rather we won the title than Liverpool (although not necessarily Arsenal) but I also recognise there are plenty of haters out there amongst their support, just don’t encounter much, if any of it personally.

Probably helps that I’m decent enough at robustly standing my ground in any argument which probably heads some stuff off at the pass. Plus I don’t work in an environment where I’m required to play office politics for the benefit of my career. That probably helps too, as I don’t need to play the game as much as others may. Must be terrible stuck working with someone like that and having a mortgage to pay.
It's a relatively small company (25 people) and he works in a different department and we are effectively peers and, to be fair he can take some stick back, but it is getting a bit old at the moment. Three of the directors are rags and he has a go at them too. We also have a long suffering Spurs season ticket holder who probably receives the most ribbing although he obviously had a joyous time when the beat the rags to win a pot last season.
The worst thing I had at work was a couple of jobs ago where one of the directors was a Liverpool fan who was humourless and fully embedded in the cult. He even had a number plate with "KOP" in it. In my team if we could see one of us getting harangued by him about football we would ring that persons phone and pretend to be a customer with an urgent issue - the daft twat never caught on.

Did he? - undoubtedly the subs changed the game but the formation change away from 4-2-2-2 probably was at least as effective as the new legs.
It did however show the value of a gamechanger from the bench if chasing a game. It is something that we do not currently seem to have even with the likes of Savinho and Marmoush as subs.

Savinho came on in the 73rd minute. Cherki scored the winner in the 83rd minute.

Anyone who possesses number plates with ‘KOP’ on them should be summarily executed without trial.

I get that and Savinho has improved in recent matches but I still do not feel that he has the impact that Watkins had for Villa and that say Dzeko had for us a decade ago. When Doku returns then he could impact things from the bench if Pep does not put him straight back in.

I have often asked myself what team I wouldn't mind winning the league if City didn't. Dippers no, tarquins no, rags...obviously not. Villa? That's a no too!

So we are just going to have to win it!
Hopefully we beat Sunderland this week........so if don't win it, we will be relying on Brentford, Palace or Fulham.....think we need to do it ourselves!

Welcome to the world of Man City.
Villa suddenly in a fixture blitz where rivals in red have a better fixture deal.
Waste of time moaning the fix is in at the start of the season.

Funny that us and Villa have 2 away games where as Arsenal have 2 home games!

Last December fixtures for Arsenal never travelled outside of London!

  • 4 December: vs Manchester
    United (Home)
  • 8 December: vs Fulham (Away)
  • 14 December: vs Everton (Home)
  • 21 December: vs Crystal Palace (Away)
  • 27 December: vs Ipswich Town (Home) (Note: Some sources list this as 26 December Boxing Day, but it was played on the 27th)
Ours..

  • 1 December: vs Liverpool (Away) - at Anfield
  • 4 December: vs Fulham (Home) (midweek)
  • 8 December: vs Brentford or similar (Away)
  • 14/15 December: vs
Manchester United (Home) - Manchester derby at the Etihad
  • 21 December: vs Aston Villa (Away)
  • 26/27 December: vs Everton (Home) (Boxing Day)
  • 29/30 December: vs Leice V or similar (Away)

Watkins is beyond awful.

Manages to mess up the simplest of shots or passes.

If Villa really do want to go further then they need better.
