As much as I could without shitting my pants again!

Absolutely flat. Where were the regulars in the South Stand? Loads of people were trying to sing but you need one end to sing, and then everyone joins in.

I thought it was going to be rocking but it was one of the worst atmospheres of the season. We have too many fans. The regulars know the songs, but if they don't turn up it doesn't work.

The atmosphere was excellent vs Chelsea. Completely different tonight and this was a much bigger game.
Financially it might have been a bigger game, but for 90% of match going fans it really wasn’t.

Peps slow team doesn't help Phil on the wing is slow, Gundo and Kova in the middle is slow. That team is slow and no grit.
Sav brings some pace but still no grit. God knows what Ferna thought watching the game.

Various dickhead journos with an agenda have had a pop at last night’s atmosphere. Even asked Pep about it in the post-match presser.

City bingo.

He probably thought how well organised and drilled the opposition were, and gave them some credit. Probably knowing too, that they'd tire.

Hope you didn't stop anyone from doing their class A's or smoking?
Funny you should say that but something similar happened to me at Villa Park in December. Got in the ground about half an hour or so before kick-off and was lucky enough to find an unoccupied cubicle in the away end toilets with an ample supply of bog roll. Was in there a good 10-15 minutes and after a good while some bloke started chanting "He's doing a keyyyyyy......" to which I responded "No mate - I'm having a shit!"

The Grauniad have gone to town. I can’t stand them but they have a point about last night.
The atmosphere was embarrassing. Pep was asked about it in the press conference but didn't bite

Such a huge contrast to Chelsea. I think it's because the new fans don't know the songs and there's no 'end' to start the songs off.

Lots of "European Night faces" in 115 last night. The atmosphere was mixed. A lot of songs started in there but didn't seem to be other areas of the ground then joining in. Can't blame 1894 etc. Doing something is better than doing either nothing or ironically moaning about the atmosphere which is what most fans in other blocks last night seem to now be doing !

My son told me a woman in front of him asked him “to keep the noise down” when he was singing. Utterly ridiculous, but clearly not a regular in 315!

Saying that, I think this is the way group stage CL matches have to be in future. For these games it isn’t necessarily a pricing thing. They’ve been sanitised to the point that lots of regulars don’t even want to be there, meaning if the club don’t make the matches attractive and accessible for tourists, schools and families, then the ground will be far from full. This will be even more apparent with a 62k capacity.

I don’t feel too bad about it, Anfield and Old Trafford have been packed with tourists for years, their grounds aren’t filled with locals or passionate football fans either.

I was sat behind a group of about 30 kids at the back of 305. They were in some school party. Their enthusiasm and noise was amazing. They kept up a chant for the entire 2md half but it was very annoying. It was complete nonsense and jibberish but at the same time quite amazing. I was shocked about how bad the atmosphere around the ground was. Usually 115 takes the lead and everyone has the key to join in. I assume the singers didn't turn up last night or were distributed all over the ground. In my opinion the tourist comments are a bit out of order. We had 30,000 non-regular fans there last night but not the regulars in place to give them the key to start organised singing. There was much more singing than usual in my block but mostly from screaming kids and isolated individuals (like me) . You literally only need about 20 people together in one block to make it work.

Brugge fans were quiet too and I was surprised that they didn't fill their allocation.

I'm in 307 and can confirm how annoying that was. Still miles better than people videoing the whole game or telling you to sit down when you clap a player off mind.

I think it’s up to the longstanding Blues, next to the newcomers, to help them to learn the songs. Well that’s what I do if I want others to join in.
