I am in hospital, just had heart bypass operation.

Managed to get the City game on my Ipad tonight.

Really shocked by the atmosphere , it was shit ,,

If it means we now get plastic fans sitting in seats when its a champions league game , then please fuck right off , no noise, no support for the guys, please , please fuck off. All I could hear was 2000 roma fans

Gutted, drugged, but gutted .

I thought our fans did as best they could.

Also you do know the TV company are in charge of the mike volume.

Get well soon I've had 18months of ill health 2 major operations it's shit and I wish you a speedy recovery!!

Yes, we have to be honest with ourselves.

To be fair, the south stand made noise, but it's the rest of the ground that's shocking.

To be fair to the majority of City fans we aren't tanked up and pumped up morons screaming for blood at every corner and giving V signs with every throw-in, but we could do a bit more shouting.

General point....

Supporter = get vocally behind the team throughout the game... the French call it 'assister' ... a good word that reflects the role that supporters can play in a match

Spectator= those who pay for the ticket with no intention of involving themselves...


We have way too many of the latter group .... that we may not be able to regulate too much... in my East level one. we still have hoards of the thermos and biccies pensioner brigade... no point in trying to rouse them

All over the stadium now are 'tourists' ... welcome . I'm sure of course they are not as emotionally involved, nor are they likely to know any of our songs(we'll get back to them)

So these are our 'spectators'

Who are our 'Supporters'....... who 'assists' ????

The whole home contingent should be capable of this but, after decades of supporting City , this is the one regret I have about leaving Maine Road

I have realised that this will not always happen
So who can we count on to lead the Support ????

The two key groups as we know, are east stand corner and SS....

last night was pathetic...

Are we spoilt now? Are we all gonna stay silent until the play/scoreline swings our way?????

I will never forget a few years ago, when we played Chelski in the FA Youth Cup Final.at the COMS.. City went one down ...

the crowd got right behind our lads... and they won 3-1

Talking to one of the players after that game, he noted that the reaction of the crowd was a big factor in galvanising their comeback

This week, both Kolorov and legend Shaun Goater have noted that the players do get inspired by the 'atmos'

You made some very good points there Dom, but one problem is that. If you take away the tourists they would be even less in the stadium, the arguments against tourists only works if the ground was full , when you could say tourists are taking the place of city fans, but the reality is tourists are not taking hardcore city fans places up cos city fans are not going anyway. Don't know what the answer is myself cos some fans seem dead set against the champions league which is a shame for City as a club cos I know everyone from the players to to owner are trying to make it work.

Kolarov commented in the programme about the lack of atmosphere and the need for the fans to get behind the team because of how much it helps them. The biggest roar of the night from us lot was when 5 minutes extra time was announced !!
The club have not learned a single lesson about the champions league. All the away games, the away fans are stuffed up in the gods - just wait to you go to roma - 80,000 screaming italians and we will be gasping for air where we will be. when we go to 60,000 seats, the atmosphere will be non existent.
We should rename the stadium TUMBLEWEED TOWERS…………...

I have just got back home after an 100 mile round trip. I go literally to every home and away game. For Champions League I get moved from my seat in 207. Last night I realised the club had my ticket up for sale and asked to be moved back to my normal seat. I was surrounded by plastic fans. To make matters worse they had sold my ticket to some knob who wanted to sit in my seat, despite the fact I had an e mail from my club to say me and my lad were now located in our normal seats. I am really mad about this. I think the club need to wake up to the fact you can have the best stadium, players etc..... but the club is nothing without proper fans. If it was upto me I would put away fans, friends of FIFA and any other Corporates in the top tier at the back. Remove the section of roof so they get pissed wet through when it rains or frozen stiff + we won't have to listen to the crap they sing.

Ref the atmosphere - anyone who did not turn up tonight should be embarrassed. You are making us a laughing stock. All these threads contain excuse after excuse about why the ground has no atmosphere. No wonder if you are sat at home !

The south stand is just 2000 cardboard cut outs arms folded standing all game and making zero noise.

me and the lad had exactly the same experience last night... ST holders in EL1.. I booked ages ago, with a promise of our ST seats

Got into the ground to find tourists with paper tickets for our seats... went to complain to a steward whose reaction was... "well we've not sold out so you'll get somewhere eventually"

Didnt hear a peep from the south stand all night. The east stand corner did all they could to try and create any atmosphere

Not a shot at you, but this a major problem with our fans we're not open to new ideas. Drums if used correctly, not like Wigan, can really help the atmosphere.

It doesn't even need to be drums, just stuff that we can somewhat improve the atmosphere.

I think people are open to new ideas. Just not shit ideas.

This is the problem, anyone who doesn't tug the party line is shouted down. Can't have drums because some teams do it and it's shit... Can't have flags because someone might have their view obscured for a second or two...

Like I said in my earlier post; we can have a one game trial for this. The majority don't link it, well we don't do it. But we can't just so easily rule out new ideas.

Let's go for it. I would add that everyone should bring a hip flask along to keep spirits high!
