Atrial fibrillation

As Monday mornings go I’ve had better. Last night I felt that my pulse rate was skipping beats. Got up this morning and went to work but didn’t feel great so thought I would get the once over at the hospital and be out as soon as I walked in.

However about a dozen tests/cannula’s and saline drips It turns out I have an atrial fibrillation. Been given some meds for it in the hope it corrects it but if not then I have to go back floor then to zap the heart back into a normal rhythm. Doesn’t sound great so I’m hoping it corrects it self.
Bit gutted and dazed to be honest. I’m a relatively fit lad although I’m 40 now. Still cycle and play a bit of football. Not a massive drinker.

Anyone else here had this or had the procedure. I’ve had enough googling it because I’m pretty sure I’ve convinced myself I’ll be dead in a week ha ha.

The only crumb of comfort I can find at the moment is that Sergio had it and apart from having to retire from football “I’ve already done that luckily “ he seems ok.

Apologies for the long boring post but keeps me off “ diagnosis in 20 seconds and your fucked” websites.

Logged in for first time in years to reply to this one as its something i dealt with years ago...(once i remembered password!) to say....dont worry about it pal. Its v v v rarely a life threatening condition. Its effectively nothing at all. Just a quick fix and you will be fine. Even if you need go back into the hospital its still a v simple procedure. You mention that you cycle and play a bit of football and this makes it even more simple as healthy people recover from it much much faster. Stay away from google diagnosis and try to relax and all will be fine my fellow blue.

RIP Bobby

You'll be fine. Let the docs do their work and you’ll be right as rain

I had the 'jolt' procedure to get my heart back in the correct rhythm but unfortunately it didn't work. I was put on Warfarin and have to have my blood thickness monitored every few weeks to ensure it doesn't get either too thin or too thick.

If the 'jolt' works then fine but even if it doesn't the blood thinner treatment is simple and effective and isn't life changing so don't worry mate.

Ah cheers mate that’s very kind and I appreciate you logging on to make that post. I’m home now so will hopefully feel a bit calmer about things.
