Key code grabbers don't work on modern "rolling code" key fobs. New key fobs are very secure, and that means they are a pain to get a replacement. Apart from a recent problem with the new Range Rover, it is much easier for car thieves to just break into your house and steal the genuine key.

When was the car purchased ? Check any relevant paperwork. The first thing would be to contact the dealership on your daughters behalf and tell them you are not impressed that you will have to fork out a couple of hundred pound on a new key fob and what,if anything , they are prepared to do about it.
