I have version 7.5 which is now failing to update, and I get a popup box when I boot up the computer inviting me to upgrade to version 8.0. When you click on the update now option it doesn't work.

I've tried googling the situation but all I get are trials for the version of AVG you need to pay for.

Can anyone provide a link to the free edition of version 8.0, or refer me to another decent free antivirus??

Ta in advance.

nonsense, ESET NOD32 is free and gives excellent cover.

Haven't tested Nod32 , but he's right about most of the free ones givin' inadequate protection ...... AVG only catches about 60% of nasties at best.

Kasperskys is about the best protection there is with a success rate of around 98% of nasties caught , not much gets past it..... it does cost , but it's well worth it.

Our work's computer runs with Bit Defender. It's ace. Don't know how it compares with Kaspersky though. Anyone?

Have heard that bitdefender is alright, the worst I have ever used was Norton, it let my computer get a virus and then fcuking told me !!!!!,all my registry was compromised (great stuff ), it could not even remove the spyware, had to format the entire system in the end.

This should answer your question...

A quick tip for anyone wanting to buy the entire Zone Alarm suite... when it comes to paying for it on your credit card, change the payment to $US. By doing this I paid $66 instead of £50 :-)
