Aymeric Laporte - 2018/19 performances

2 howlers leading to their first two goals tonight and seemed nervous as hell (as you’d expect after those clambers) for quite sometime afterwards.

Not sure if that was down to the occasion or having a different left back to play alongside but he’ll come back Of that I’m sure.
 
People saying he is same level as Van Dijk are wrong imo. everyone makes mistakes but Laporte did 3 of them in one very important game. That is just awful timing at its worst. No one cares if you something like this vs Huddersfield when you are 4-0 up and they punish the mistake and its 4-1.

But high pressure CL game for a semifinal when away goals count so much to do these mistakes in 10 minutes fucking hell. And of course both is punished, 2 shots = 2 goals.

He is still our best defender. But our defenders need to raise their games much more in tricky CL games. That has to be one of the lesson after we analyze the way we are going out of CL 3 years running conceding obscene goals and lot of them.

I think the occasion got to him. Hopefully he comes out of this with a better understanding of how to handle these in the future.
 
Infact if I personally was in Laportes position I wouldn't be able to sleep until I said sorry to my team and refunded the fans but that's just me haha.

Don’t forget though VVD has fucked up too. He gave away the penalty when we played them in the league. No defender will have a spotless season. It’s how you react.
 
He should be benched for the next game. 3 goals, his fault. Can't risk him doing the same again this weekend. Some players have to understand that they are not untouchable.
 
His social media accounts have all been locked down this morning. Hoping the bluemoon massive haven't been giving him shit on there as well...
 
Laporte is kind of the Alpha/leadet in the CB, he dictates how the team plays from the back and his defensive partner (Stones,Ota, Danilo) goes along with it, problem is, last night he was paired with a natural leader - Vinny, someone he hasn't really had the time to play togethet with so it all became awkward and most times you could clearly see Laporte and Vinny going for the same ball. Vinny as a natural leader was trying to dictate play as he would with other understudies like Stones, Ota but Laporte was also trying to dictate play, the situation became a terribly awkward confused defensive pairing, not because both defenders are bad but because an understanding as to who should dictate play hasnt been established between the both of them. I would like to see the both of them paired again BUT an understanding must be established as to who leads the defensive pairing.

I saw him get absolute pelters from everywhere on Twitter last night. Sad, but that's the nature of Social Media.

Obviously, we're all aware it was probably his worst performance in a City shirt last night, but for people to go out and hound the poor lad after the season he's had is wrong imo.
 
Sometimes a really good player costs you a game, or a trophy. It's unfortunate, but it is what it is, and the only important thing now is that he reacts to it well.
 
Had a nightmare of a game but hopefully he'll learn from it.
No point piling the blame on him, we got quite a few things wrong over the 2 legs.
 
Still probably a top 3 player for us this season, love you Laporte, come back even stronger you beautiful bastard
 
He has moved his twitter to private due to the abuse he is getting on there. Frankly disgusting considering the many MOTM performances he has done for us this year. Plenty of individual errors across the squad.
 
Insta comments disabled too. Shame on those giving him abuse...we're all emotional over last night but a bit of cop on seems to be lost on a lot of people. If I was a footballer I don''t even think I'd use Twitter, I hate the word, but it is such a toxic place, especially Football Twitter.

Was awful last night.

The latter shouldn’t detract from the former. Those giving him disgusting abuse on social media aren’t proper city fans, they’re just nutters who have attached themselves to City.
 
After VAR, he cost us a place in the semi finals. Sergio penalty miss also.

But to have such a great season and make such errors in a game of this magnitude is a shock. Would of been less surprised if Kompany made them actually.

He was visably rocked after the mistakes. If Pep has some sense he’ll keep him out of the team for the next games, we have more than worthy replacements.
