BA Cabin Crew

As the national flag-carrier BA wouldn't be allowed to go bust by any government and I'm sure Lord Snooty and his Tory/fencesitting LibDem pals wouldn't see them go down the drain.

I'm amazed and disappointed to see how much anti-union sentiment there is on here. It's times like these when we need unions. BA, I'm afraid, is the thin edge of the wedge.

Wait until the multi-millionaire Lord Snooty embarks on his slash and burn policies elsewhere, starting with the easy target of the public sector.

Your job could be next; you have been warned.

good post BTH

First they came for the Communists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Communist
Then they came for the Socialist
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Socialist
Then they came for the trade unionists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a trade unionist
Then they came for the Jews
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Jew
Then they came for me
And there was no one left
To speak out for me

Pastor Martin Niemoller

Those marvelous lines did cross my mind TBH.

The trade union movement is already dead in this country.

No it isn't.

My Union recently balloted for strike action.

The strike happened, and the matter was taken to the courts. The courts ruled that what the employer (the Government) was trying to bring in was illegal. So it was beaten.

People who trot out this ignorant comment are usually employers, Tories/LibDems, workers at non-unionised shops or those parasites who are too tight to pay their subs but are happy with the advantages unions fight for and win on behalf of the common good.

And without the efforts and organisation of our Union that would have been introduced. Taking millions of pounds of our money that we are legally entitled to, and formed the terms and conditions of our original contracts.
If they think they can shaft us like that they were mistaken.

To anyone not in a Union.............join one. It's the only real way to get yourself heard.

Oh, But unions are nasty!

I mean for my subs i get free legal advice and backing, Union learning schemes where the employer have to allow us to attend courses to better ourselves in basic skills or something more interesting like British sign language.

I mean; who would want to join a union that pro actively helps and well as protects the people that it serves?

To think all these comments come in response to a post from someone who's saying the unions aren't supported enough by the public, despises the ambivalence and hostility directed towards them, and wants them to strike more often.

Taxi for tory shill...

trade union membershio has declined dramatically in this country . It's seen as uncool by the young who think that the lib dems will save them from tuition

Older people are more enlightened and more likely to be members of a trade union

Very true to some degree, but there again, they havent really lived through a tory government (at least not as a taxpayer), as history can show, Union membership rises significantly when tories are attacking Terms and Conditions of employment.

As Mackenzie has said when a well organised and well led union like the PCS take a stand, they will more often than not, with the backing of their members, win.
Hopefully I will get the chance to listen to Mark Serwotka at our conference the week after next.

Willy Walsh claiming Unite refused a meeting despite BA saying earlier they were not bothered about meeting today but maybe next week!!
