Baby Boomers, Gen X, millennials

Woohooo, It's official, I'm a baby boomer, I'm a baby boomer. Thank god I've been pidgeon holed, I can finally sleep at night.
What are you on about, man? The term "baby boomers" was first coined in 1963, about 40 years before Twitter was even thought of. Nobody's trying to pigeonhole you or put you in a box on social media, it's just a term applied to people who were born in a particular time period.

Same goes for the "Silent Generation" and "Generation X", both descriptors were first coined in the 1950s. Billy Idol and the Spice Girls both used the term in their music in the 80s and 90s. Millennials were meant to be known as "Generation Y" but "millennials" replaced it some time in the 90s.

All of this happened before social media. People have been labelling and categorising things since before either of us were born. Any process of labelling and categorising for future generations is only going to repeat what's come before. I'm really, really not sure what your problem is.

The actual dates for Baby Boomers is 1946 -1964.
Anybody born in the late 1960s is a Generation X.

And then there is this generation :)

Wise up Grandad.
You're way behind the times.
In the words of Jethro Tull -
You're "Living in the Past" !!!
I’ve never heard of Generation Jones before, where does that originate from?
I reminisce often, but very much in the present ;-)

I only read about it myself about 6 months ago.
It seems that because the "baby boom " generation is the largest generation ( the very name is self explanatory) and it spans 18 years (1946-1964) it was decided to split it into 2 separate groups.
Personally speaking,I have an older sister ( born in 1948) who is 8 years older than me.
And it feels like she is from a different generation to me, different tastes in music, clothes and lifestyle and a different attitude to life in general.
My younger brother was born in 1959, and we are like 2 peas in a pod.
Similar tastes in music, nights out, clothes and football etc.
So it feels correct to split the boomers into 2 new groups in my own experience.

Interesting that. I’m the eldest of 5, so didn’t have the same experience, 4 of us were born within 5 years, with the youngest 3 yrs later; but she basically followed us..
I understand it’s the biggest grouping, but it’s the ‘Jones’ label I don’t get. Who is this Jones? Anybody know?

Because Baby Boomers are the largest generation (18 years) they have now been split into 2 new groups.
Those born between 1946-1954 are known as Early Boomers .
And those born between 1955 -1964 are known as Generation Jones.
Given that my family name is Casey and my year of birth is 1963, that makes me a train driver ;)
