They suggest the 3 stripes is a myth... because they can't find any evidence to support the 3 rivers theory... what a load of bollocks...

I don't know who they paid to do their research but it seems flawed. The commentary about the eagle actually confuses the coat of arms with the emblem created in 1957 (the one which utd wore on their shirts in 58 and the one City's design team used when designing today's MCFC eagle).

The 3 lines do represent the Irwell, Medlock and Irk and I will have some evidence for this somewhere in my collection.

They got the bit about the ship right - it does predate the Manchester Ship Canal but my understanding was that it represented trade generated via the older canals such as the Bridgewater, whereas these people suggest it was simply to identify Manchester as a trade centre and nothing to do with any canal.
