When you run a business or a department in a company, you usually produce a forecast for the period ahead. An old boss of mine gave me a piece of advice years ago which has stuck with me. Don't be a hero in your budget, be a hero in your delivery. in other words, if you promise the earth, anything less is failure.

Garry Cook really should heed this advice:

"I know this club will be one of the biggest clubs in the world in 10 years' time - I have no doubts about that," he said.

I am absolutely sick of him spouting promises like the above. What purpose does his continued tubthumping serve, apart from getting him headlines?

Just shut your mouth, Cook.

He knows that already - the real plan is that we will be the one of the biggest clubs in the world in 5 years time.
