"New players are coming in a few months and I might be overtaken. I don't see myself playing for City in two or three years, lifting trophies.

"It's going to stop quickly. My body won't hold up for a long time. I'll soon be 31 and that will quickly become a problem. I won't be able to play at my best any more and I will stop playing.

"I have had seven knee operations in the last nine years. I can't string three games a week together. My body does not allow me to play all the time."

Am I the only one gutted to read that? I really, really don't want him to go =( He has become such a fans favourite and rightfully so. Commitment, goals, work-rate - it's everything you could ever wish for. If he does then he won't be forgotten. £14,000,000 is a bargain for this man and when he retires he can do so with his head held high. He will bow out remembered as one of those who you loved on your side but hated on the oppositions and that is testiment to the way he plays.

Full interview:-

CRAIG BELLAMY has launched an outspoken attack on fellow professionals by claiming he is "ashamed" to be a footballer.

The Manchester City winger is convinced he is a changed man after the controversy that has dogged him throughout his career.

Bellamy, who claimed last month "everyone in football knows what JT is like" after the Chelsea skipper's affair with Vanessa Perroncel, is shocked by the behaviour of team-mates.

He said: "I don't feel close to footballers. Sometimes when I see certain things I'm ashamed to be a footballer.

"I don't go to nightclubs, I don't go to lounge bars, I don't spend my days shopping. That doesn't interest me.

"I spend a lot of time with my children at home. That's where I feel good."

Bellamy also admitted that he gets angry when fellow pros show a lack of commitment on the field.

He added: "I don't know how to be on the pitch as a tourist. Some lads do that but I can't. When I play, I play for real. I never pretend.

"I know I get carried away by emotion. I have always been like that. I don't give a toss whether that pleases people or not. I do my thing. What counts for me is the respect of my family, people who know me, my manager and my team-mates.

"Wayne Rooney is more effective in front of goal than me, but I love the guy. If you go to war you prefer to have Rooney on your side. It's the same with Roy Keane - a legend.

"I'd be happy to be a quarter of the player he was. Like him, I can't bear matches passing me by."

Bellamy, 30, also admitted he fears for his future at City as they line up another summer of big-spending and high-profile recruits.

He has been outstanding for the club this season and is finally responding to the methods of Italian coach Roberto Mancini.

Bellamy's bond with former City chief Mark Hughes affected his relationship with Mancini in the beginning, but the issues have finally been resolved.

Overtaken
The City firebrand added: "Mark Hughes was not my mate. I never had his telephone number, but he was a really good manager.

Bellamy, interviewed in a French magazine, also attempted to explain the reasons for his volatile temperament.

The Wales star has had a number of brushes with authority, as well as team-mates, during his playing career.

Bellamy traces it back to his early days at Norwich, when he spent time away from his family back in Cardiff.

He added: "When I was at Norwich I found it really difficult to be far away from family when I was so young.

"I missed Christmas and birthdays. I didn't always have great relationships with the families I lodged with.

"You can say I had problems with my behaviour very early.

"I'm from Cardiff and for me, Cardiff is Wales.

"Beyond that it's something else - countryside, it's green.

"Outside Cardiff, you are Welsh without really being Welsh.

"A guy like John Hartson speaks Welsh and has loads of tattoos to prove he's Welsh.

"But I'm telling you there are not many blokes who are more Welsh than me."

Is that a new interiew? Sounds very similar to past reports.

Agree. Very good signing, and I believe that fee is a lot less than the press reported at the time

That's a sad read

Hopefully Bellers will be with us to lift a couple of trophies it is the least he deserves

we would be silly to let him go..even if he's used as an impact sub he will still be one of the most feared players in the prem...
hes worth 20 + mill to us in real terms.

I think most city fans realise that Craig hasn't got that much longer with us, due to his injury issues. Maybe 2 more years if he's used intelligently. He has been a fantastic buy for us and, as bluevengence has already said, it'd be fantastic to have 11 with his attitude on the pitch.

That article has made me feel quite sad. The strange thing is i used to dislike Bellamy quite abit (uninformed opinion). Since he has been blue i've noticed his work rate, attitude and finishing plus what he demsnds from his team mates. The guys is immense both on and off the field. The day Bellers leaves/retires will be a sad day for blues indeed.

What a buy!!

I was really impressed with what he said just after he joined us.

Something along the lines of: "I want to be a part of what's happening at City, even if it's only for a short while, and no matter how small. I will be able to look back and say, 'I was there at the beginning of the revolution and played a part in City becomming the club it has.'"

I, along with many others (I think), was disappointed when we signed him, but he has been a revelation for us.

All hail CB39!

Love this bit:

That's going to piss a lot of Welsh people off.

Yeah he knew that this was his last pay-day, and last chance to leave a leagcy as such. You can tell by the way he plays.

I'll be devastated when he retires, and I reckon he'll retire here.

Not his biggest fan, but I wouldn't argue that he hasn't made a worthwhile contribution. I don't think he'll be so difficult to replace. I'd take a Riberry or a Robben tomorrow to be honest.

tbh mate I really think he needs to take his head of his arse, don't get me wrong I love the guy but sometimes I look at him after he's scored and it seems like he feels he's doing us a favour, maybe that's his cockiness I dunno.

Maybe with a good attitude from him, and good managment of him by Mancini and staff we could get another 2-3 seasons out of him if we don't rely on him to start to many matches or put in more than 30-40 mins. Doesn't look like a player who needs 6 full matches to regain sharpnes after a layoff, so could be great to bring on for the last 1/2 hour in a tight game.

He said all this about not lasting after the last set of purchases. If we bought a Ribery or a Robben i wouldn't put it past the guy to beat them into the team. Class signing, (i never thought i'd say that at the time!), and it will be a truly sad day when he hangs up his boots - hopefully at city. If ever a player deserved to lift a trophy for us it's this guy. Never less than 100%. We've had a few players like that in my lifetime but the difference with Bellers is he's actually a fucking good player too!

Didnt he get smacked outside a nightclub only a few months ago?

Anyway, aside from the Roy Keane reference (legend my fucking arse, jumped up little thug **** more like it) not a bad read. I think he's got a couple of seasons in him yet - he can be devastating coming off the bench.
