Surely this is more about signing a "HG player" and not about signing the best player possible for the position? All the CB's in the world we could go for and we targeting Gibson and Evans? Maybe the club is letting Gibson's name out to push WBA to take our final offer for Evans?

Yh for HG, they must have something else planned for the other spots.

Seems to be a set limit to what they'll spend on the HG CB..maybe also a good sign!

It always has been. I gave up telling people in the Evans thread in the end.
We clearly need the foreign spots for other players.
As for this rumour I'm happy it's come around again, would much rather spend £20m on Gibson than £30m on Evans.

Gonna repost this as I haven't seen much of Gibson myself, Is only young and could improve I guess, but something to bare in mind.
Jonny Evans is better than Ben Gibson. I'm not sure people realise how much protection Gibson gets or certainly got last season playing under Karanka. I live in the Boro and and am surrounded by smoggies and have yet to speak to one who thinks he's good enough to play for a top 6 side. I've seen plenty of him myself and to me it's obvious to see he would struggle in a high line.
