Benjamin Mendy - 2018/19 Performances

Let’s not write Benjamin off just yet, horrid time but he’s young enough to turn it around and if he does we have a new dimension!

I don't think getting rid of him is even close to a possibility.

What is the market going to be for a £50m LB who is on big wages and has missed 2 years from injury? Not to mention the manager has had to comment on his attitude/behaviour a few times.

It would be like trying to offload Adebayor again.

So I don't think we could get rid without writing off £50m which seems unlikely.

Hes got time to get healthy, get fit and then deliver on his potential, which is to be the best LB in the world without a doubt. His crossing ability alone would make him a 15-20 assist a season player if he played 40 games.

If mendy does become our second choice left back he will still play plenty of games and there will be less chance of him breaking down again. We will likely be fighting over four fronts again next season and the following seasons so will still be a useful squad member if he can get over his injuries

His performances for Lyon, Monaco and city to date.

His ability to pick players out with crosses is completely unmatched. I think people have forgotten while hes been injured but it's almost a joke the way he was putting the ball on a plate for Aguero and co 3 or 4 times a game. They were missing chances because they thought there was no way he could get it to them and somehow mendy would hit a cross at pace that would split 4 defenders in the box and be at their feet.

And I've never seen a left back take over games completely like he did for us against Watford and like he did for Monaco a few times, just steam rollering midfields, with full backs and CBs literally falling over themselves because they don't know which is supposed to deal with him because he starter a run out wide but is now at the penalty spot.

No fullback in the world can do anything even close to what Mendy does at his best.

I agree, one of the best crossers not only in his position but in general imo. Mendy’s crossing is better than most wingers and midfielders let alone any leftback. Which is why Pep always said Ben gives something “extra.”

I do think Pep’ comments are a challenge to Mendy because there is no way we would sell. He’s been injured for two seasons and is on good wages. Plus his off field antics, we’d get more if sell Delph with a year left.

I think he gets another season, if by this time next year he’s still not fit and playing regularly, we sell him and cut our losses.

He can defend better than Marcelo or Alba at their best, better than Roberto Carlos.

You don't need to be Maldini to be the best LB in the world, and with the way we play, we benefit a lot more from someone who will cost us a goal every 5 games but create us a goal at the other end every other game.

That could allow us to try Zinchenko out in midfield or left wing and still have cover.
