Watch him...he does it regularly every match and it leads to teams breaking on us...he isnt the only one but he is particular bad at it.

He seems to not want to use his right foot at all which reduces his passing options, makes him predictable and slow (in his passing) and easy to read. HIs passing can be very incisive especially into the strikers at the edge of the area which is great BUT his bassing inside (square) is poor....maybe it is sharpness but he was doing it before he got injured as well.



Watch at about 1.10/1.11 secs its Mendy that gives the ball away that leads to the penalty.

He tried to recover BUT after the pass to the man that is eentuay fouled he slows down and doesnt keep sprinting in order to cove behind Ferna whcih is what he should be doing.

I agree, particularly about his lack of using his right. There were some good passes in there tbf though, a couple that broke lines and led to chances. Jury still very much out but expect plenty of improvement as he gets up to match speed and in sync with his teammates again.
 
He’s good at the things Walker is good at without the ball.

Sterling was struggling for fluidity in his game for a couple of months this season when playing with Zinchenko on that side. Mendy does well at occupying certain areas or making runs both to create better space for Sterling.

Mendy is a good winger’s full back. Sterling looks much sharper playing with Mendy.

Thats because he doesnt have to stay wide and cross with his left he can just stick to cutting inside which is what he should be doing on the left although i still prefer him on the right he can get more goals on the left with mendy or angelino playing

Agreed, definitely not at his best.

Hopefully it is just down to getting back to full fitness and confidence in his body after injury (he seemed to be limiting his sprints quite a bit throughout the game, perhaps anxious about his ligaments, which put us in bad situations, especially the first half).
 
He didnt do the the amazing things that everybody seems to want after 2 years of not playing football, I did see a player who seemed comfortable playing within himself and trying to play solid passes that were not gonna set the world on fire, but would give him confidence in coming back into a very technical team that has been progressing without him in it .
