#22 | Benjamin Mendy - 2020/21 Performances

I think it's too easy to just blame the injuries. Plenty of players have had awful injuries and adapted their game and gone on to have good careers. Sure the injuries meant Mendy lost a lot of his physical attributes but I think his attitude is just as much to blame.

Throwing parties, instagram stories, twitter posts etc. He loves the lifestyle more than being a footballer. If he got his head down and learnt to adjust his game he could still have a future here. But you still see him stood on the half way line like he thinks he still has his pace to rescue him from his shit positioning.
Whilst his off the field activities/lifestyle don't help, I still injuries on the main contributory factor on his current performances.

I'd be shipping him out on loan ASAP this window. More time for him to convince another club he's worth buying.

When Ake's back, Mendy will likely be 4th choice behind him, Cancelo and Zinchenko.

There's just no real need for him when he's largely ineffective for us, so the priority should be putting him in the shop window at a lesser club and hope he builds some form.

Sadly injuries and maybe attitude have caught up with him, didn’t impress tonight and is behind Cancelo and Zinchenko in pecking order, I’d offload as soon as possible. Forgot to add Ake to that as well, Mendy would be 4th choice.

People keep talking about the injuries, but that doesn’t excuse a lack of control and an inability to place passes correctly or make intelligent play. His inconsistency of control is particular telling at this level.

He was decent today, but the gulf between Cancelo and any of our other fullbacks is huge!

So I'm always pro- taking off any fullback to get Cancelo on the field
And if Torres scores an easyish effort and the defender does not do an impossible goal line clearance he would have had an assist and a goal. I thought he was one of the better players first half and gave us an attacking threat. The hate for Ben is horrible to read on this site sometimes, the boy has had a huge injury, you can’t be sure that he will ever fully recover test some people / fans seems to think it’s ok to call him a useless twat. Shakes head

He has lost his pace (probably because of the injuries) and that was his main attribute. Nowadays he can't get past his marker so has ended up trying to hoof the ball in from a deeper position. Defensively he is appalling, one of the worst defensive fullbacks I have seen at City, and we have had some clowns over the years. He will go in the summer. Left back is a jinxed position for us.

I don't think anyone hates Mendy.
Thinking someone is not up to a required standard and hating someone are completely different.
We bought him based on his great performances in France, a French International and a player who could get down the wing and provide great crosses and passes into the box.
He started off well enough but had what at first appeared to be an innocuous enough injury. This injury turned out to be serious.
Unfortunately he has not got got back to full fitness , lost his ability to cross, defends poorly and is lacking confidence.

He has slipped down the pecking order and does not look like getting his place back.
Our foreign quota is full and if we need to bring in a player on loan or buy someone, a player has to be sold or dropped from our panel.
We have no long term injuries so I think Mendy is the one in the most precarious position.
He is still here as he is unsellable due to his wages and fitness.
If he hasn't got his game back fully he has to go even though the club may he out millions.

Appalling performances when fit, touch of Lukaku, can’t pass, can’t run, positional awareness of a blind man. Thinks it’s acceptable to be flying in escorts/seeking out escorts and hosting a New Year party.

Not sure what any of that has to do with his injuries. The guy is a useless twat. Maybe if he’d shown the determination that Kompany used to when injured he’d get a lot more leeway instead of paying to get his dick wet when half of our fans are on furlough.

I agree with a lot of that but at the very top level the gap you describe between him and Vk is probably only 5% rather than 50%. Compared to the Michael Johnson regime of rehab in town every night mendy has been the model pro. It's just a shame forum amd us really. I only saw him once or twice for Monaco and he certainly looked the real deal then.
