So the the speaker has announced he will step down as speaker and MP when this parliamment ends.

He may be a tory, but he has been a great speaker of the house and entertaining to boot.

We have been blessed with the last three speakers in betty boothroyd, Michael Martin and John Bercow who have all been top notch


Who comes next who knows , though the deputy speaker Lindsey Hoyle always does a good job

Under any normal circumstance it is of little relevance. Given the shithousery of BoJo it is clearly a very high pressure job right now.

He is a tory, but a parliamentarian first, the shithousery and disregard for parliament and it's traditions and behaviour recently of the government obviously means that him having to drag them into sensible politics can at times looks slightly one sided, but in the 10 years as speaker he has been very good at it





The lack of respect and applause for his speach from his own party and the front bench is pathetic imho.
