Bernard Halford

Wasnt a big fan and had a few run ins with him when secretsry of the Centenary Supporters Association.
Always hoped he would do a book - warts and all - but assuned he would be incriminating himself with the dodgy dealings of PJS if he did.... Is there anyone left from the Swales era?

No doubting his love of the club and a sad day for the club. RIP
 
Only heard good things about him and how thoughtful he was, especially with a lady I know, who didn’t know who he was, but he talked to her about city, and sorted out tickets for her boys without letting on about his connections to the club. Will be greatly missed. Hoping he can pull a few strings up there for our remaining games! RIP x
 
R.I.P Bernard

I remember as a 9 year old kid in 1979 writing to City asking for players autographs, I sent an autograph book and a stamped addressed envelope for it's return.

Most of the players signed my book and Bernard signed it three separate times!!!
 
Sad day indeed. He had his critics as a few have said but no doubt he loved the club. Many older fans will feel this, as great as the recent success is we love the fact that the club still retains strong roots to our not so illustrious past. Every time one of the old guard dies a part of us dies too.
 
Knew his son Carl when I was younger, remember him being on city's books for a short time in the seventies, can't remember if he ever made a first team appearance.

Condolences to the family, a great servant to the club and although some older folks may not like him for his part with Swales I doubt anyone that ever met him woukd doubt his loyalty.
 
Perhaps the last link to the good old bad old days. RIP to a true blue.
 
Met Bernard a few times over the years..Will never forget what he did for me around 30 yrs ago when i wrote to the club,as an out of town supporter asking about help with travelling to Maine road..i got a personally signed letter from the Secretary of Manchester City FC..thanking me for my interest..amd promising to put my name in the next home match day programme.to highlight my enquiry re lifts to Manchester.....which he did.He also put me in touch with The Leicester and rugby supporters branch,and very soon after Anita Britton, the branch secretary wrote to me ...i was already City daft,but those two letters changed my life.i was proper hooked and began following City home and away.as well as playing for City supporters team regularly
...RIP Bernard.i still have your letter stored away somwhere...What a man..to take such care consideration and genuine interest in a letter from an out of town Blue was fantastic.
A big big part of my earliest Maine Road memories. Very sad news.Folk like Bernard,Janice in the club shop,Helen ,Roy Clarke in the social club...all City through and through,and always pleased to see me with a smile.Great memories.
