Aplogies if this has been posted before, I haven't seen it and only became aware this evening.
A Dukinfield Supporters brach member has a petition for a stand to be renamed in honour of Bert Tratmann.
I wrote the following to our branch members:
I attended the meeting Kevin refers to below and although everyone who spoke about it that evening seemed in favor, it was the opinion of
some committee members and others present who had a good working knowledge of the club and who had regular dealings with City officials that
while a commercial opportunity remained an option for the club i.e. a potential commercial entity to sponsor a stand, the club (MCFC) would probably not sanction the renaming of a stand in Berts name.
This was, however, just their opinion.
I personally think the renaming of a stand or (more likely) a statue outside the main entrance would be a fitting tribute to a man who won over
a nation his homeland had previously been at war with and that apart, was one of the finest players in our history to ever wear the shirt.
I've signed the petition even though the opinions above make renaming a stand unlikely but it could well result in a some other form of tribute which I personally think Bert deserves.
I leave you to make up your own minds and act accordingly.
