Best Achievement

I can’t really give you an answer.
They’re all incredible achievements in their own ways.

Centurions
Unique to City.
To get 100 points in a season, you have to be ‘on it’ almost every time you step onto the pitch.

How we don’t have a song about that achievement I’ll never know.

Fourmidables
Unique to City.
Winning all four domestic trophies is one thing, doing it while getting 98points in the league is incredible. Doing it against a team who pushed us all the way who also got 97points, meaning we had to win all of our final 14 PL games, makes it even more of an achievement. We probably should have gone and won the CL that season n’all, that is the greatest English football team ever (especially the midfield of Fernandinho-DSilva-DeBuryne being the greatest midfield ever in English football).

Quintuple
Unique to City.
Winning the Super Cup and Club World Cup off the back of winning the CL makes the Treble a Quintuple really.
An incredible achievement, but we weren’t as consistently good as frequently that season as we were in the Centurions or Fourmidables seasons. We were actually quite poor either side of the World Cup.
But that’s balanced out with it being the season we finally won the CL, and looking at the teams we had to beat along the way to do it: Bayern, Madrid, Inter.

Four-in-a-Row
Unique to City.
Hard not to look at it like it was our lowest quality title winning season really but the achievement is really over a four year period rather than one season. Having to be ‘on it’ over four consecutive seasons where you could argue that the PL has never been stronger, with the broadcasting revenue in the game these days and teams down in the bottom half regularly cherry picking players from CL teams in other leagues. There’s a reason it’s never been done before in English football because English football is so competitive, but to do it when English football is at its pinnacle is simply amazing.

Yeah, I can’t give you an answer.

Most records can be broken or matched in a season. Four in a row is the biggest achievement as it will take four consecutive seasons for any team to match it. I don’t think we’ll see it again!

4 in a row for me.

To sustain success over that period of time and considering the third in a row came with another 4 trophies domestically and in Europe/World then that's going to take some beating.

The treble had only been done once before, but we had won the league twice in a row before that and also added the Super Cup and Club World Cup. Then went and made history.

What the team and Pep has delivered is exceptional and the drop off we are having was inevitable at some point.

I think Arsenal's Invincibles season is also worth a mention and I'm sure Tarquins breath a sigh of relief when there are no zeroes in the L column for the other 19 PL teams. However the main thing about league football is to get as many points as possible and they only gained 90 during that season while City have won the PL with 100 points and 98 points and Liverpool have won it with 99.

Any half decent team can win a cup competition, given favourable draws and the rub of the green. See United last year.

To win a league title is a major achievement in itself and can never be done by luck.

Retaining it has only ever been done by the very best teams. Arsenal for example haven’t done it since the 1930s.

To win three on the trot is virtually impossible with one cycle of players. It usually needs a transition season that is so smoothless , you still end up better than everyone else.

Four on the trot is so unlikely in a competitive league last ours, it’s taken over 130 years for it to happen. And it wouldn’t surprise me if it takes a similar amount of time to happen again.

It trumps any combination of winning cup competitions by an absolute mile, for me.

Obviously it’s possible but the way teams are coming on these days it’s much harder to gain that amount of points. Everyone is beating everyone else these days, I think the 100 point era has gone forever ..
There’s never been a 100 point era. Just one fucking brilliant team that managed to achieve it. There was a really fucking tedious 83 pt era when those rag twunts hovered up the league

Football is about winning things. If you had to pick between going unbeaten in the league or winning the double/treble it's clear what is better.

Football is definitely more about scoring goals and winning games than it is about not losing games.

Look at Juventus this season:

I’d rather be Lazio, having lost 6 games, but would go above Juve if they win their game in hand.

Arsenal’s invincibles points tally has been bettered by 12 other PL teams. They also only scored 73 goals. We’ll probably score more than that this season, in our worst season for 15 years.

So glad you’re posting again, mate!

Fantastic post and encapsulates what an incredible ride this has been. Objectively has to be the best supporter experience in the history of the English game, especially when you consider where we came from and the fact that the 2022 title win and the pressure we had to absorb to win that didn’t even make the cut!

The record books will parade four in a row as the stand out achievement and objectively speaking that has to be correct, but subjectively speaking it’s the 2018-19 season, most especially our performance in the league after we lost to Newcastle in January.

To win 14 games in a row is an incredible achievement as evidenced by how often it has been done in the history of English league football, but to win the last 14 games when to slip up once would have meant falling short, when we had distractions and disappointments in other competitions throughout is truly incredible. To live through that week to week, to experience it first hand, to win the league that beautiful sunny day in Brighton, was unquestionably my favourite experience as a City fan, better even than seeing us win the CL in Istanbul.

In your post you have also underlined that team was our greatest, and thereby the greatest ever to play the game of football from these shores. I feel genuinely blessed to have experienced that first hand.
