Must watch - tomorrow ( Feb 28th) on Great! Movies Classic (Freeview 52 Sky 319) at 13.05 (1.05PM). The Set Up (1949) with Robert Ryan (a former American golden gloves amateur boxer). Story tells of 35 year old over the hill journeyman fighter looking for the one last fight which will restart his stalling career). Matched up against a hot young prospect with mob connections, and unbeknown to him his manager accepted a bribe for him to take a dive. No wasted scenes and engrossing fight action this film is also in real time mode, like High Noon 2 years later. An early effort directed by Robert Wise who later made West Side Story, The Sound of Music and The Dirty Dozen. View or record. A must.

Ali or Raging Bull from those I’ve seen.

I’ve not seen it but The Boxer is said to be the most realistic in terms of the actual fight scenes.
