Hiya, remember my thread from last night? There are a lot of Korean restaurants in China, cater for the Korean tourists.

The korean meat balls are the dogs bollocks!!!!

My wife visited Manchester with me two years ago, first time she had ever been to England. We went to the Yang Sing in the TC, a lad working there at the time was Malaysian but he did speak Mandarin, my wife asked him why they sell 'Chinese food' which clearly isn't Chinese. His answer was along the lines of 'we know, but this is how people like it here'.
A few days later my daughter took us to a takeaway in Astley, that was fun. we're all standing in the queue, my wife gets her turn, the lass behind the counter asks me if my wife speaks Mandarin or Cantonese, the answer being Mandarin. The lass tries to talk to my wife to figure out what she wants, after a minute or so she calls a guy out of the kitchen who did speak Mandarin. My wife eventually got what the ever it was she asked for. I'm next in line, asked for 'Steak and Kidney pudding, chips peas & gravy, the lad that had been talking to my wife in Mandarin stuck his head round the kitchen door and said to me 'now that I can do!' it was quite funny at the time.

One of the few places in town that doesn't just serve up the usual gloop (kfc in jam!) is red hot chilli on Portland Street. They specialise in spicy schezuan food and have a huge menu with all sorts of crazy stuff on there, stir fried heart and lungs anyone? That's a bit extreme for me but they do a lot less frightening dishes that are really well cooked and more authentic compared to your usual chinatown place. Prices are fairly reasonable, not dirt cheap but reasonable.

I'll second this, it's clearly not aimed at us westeners, but the meal was damn fine.

Where is that place Soulboy?

I don't live too far from it, but presuming you're coming from Manchester...

Up the M6 to the junction for Preston/Blackburn... follow the A59 for Blackburn, and then keep on the A59 to Clitheroe.

Go past British Aerospace on your right... about another mile down the road on your left hand side, it's there.

I'm going tomorrow afternoon to book a place for next week.

Might see you there!
