So me and the old man are taking a trip around The west coast of the states starting next week. I am aware of last minute dot com, what is the best site to get good hotel deals and any advice on car rentals?

priceline if you're staying in the larger cities and are willing to book on the day you're staying there. They usually have a name your own price option. Depending on how busy it is, I've snagged 4-5* hotels in NYC for under $100 a night for example.
