Best/worst cup game?

worst
Watford at home, 1986, FA cup second replay. Paul Power went bonkers when we won the toss to get us back to Maine Road after the first replay at Vicarage Road, home advantage would surely count in our favour? They battered us 3-1.
West Ham at home in the QFs about 10 years ago, apart from the Luton game in 83 possibly the most disappointed I've ever been a match. Middlesbrough in the SF if we won, what could possibly go wrong?
Blackburn away in the QFs 7-8 years ago, spineless gutless performance.
2013 final.

best
all obvious, but.....
SF vs the shite
SF vs Chelsea
2011 final

And, this isn't the best but an honourable mention for an FA cup match vs Coventry about 15 years ago. They absolutely battered us at Maine Road but we managed a late winner - I do like it when we win a match we don't deserve to.

Worst - Only including ones I went to, not just bad results, take your pick from:
Bury (A) League Cup 72-73? 0-2
Lincoln (A) League Cup 90s first leg 1-4
Lincoln (H) League Cup 90s second leg 0-1
Barnet (A) League Cup 90s 0-1 though at least we got through on aggregate
Wycombe (A) 0-0 through on aggregate
Midget-land UEFA Cup 0-1
Forest (H) FA Cup 0-3

Best:
Ipswich semi-final 81 1-0
Rags semi-final 2011 1-0
Rags League Cup 75-76 4-0 - and don't bother getting on your high horses about Bell's injury as we didn't know how bad it was at the time
Milan (H) UEFA Cup 78-79 3-0
Stoke FA Cup final 2011 1-0 - first time I'd seen us win the FA Cup live.

Again ones I went to....

Worst
Oldham away FA Cup a few years back, lost 1-0
Wigan home FA Cup Qtr Final 2014 lost 2-1 - I reckon that we would have done the Treble that year but for that

Best
Stock FA Cup Final 2011

Ha ha. You might well be right.

Funny, I was saying to someone the other day that I can remember games 30 years ago much more clearly than I can those much more recently. Don't know if it's because that's when I was first going or because I'm getting older. Probably both.

Me too. Though I think it's mainly cos I don't have to remember as many goals back from games in the 80s-00s!

That Wigan home defeat was horrendous. Not only that, Arsenal went on to win their first trophy for some time. They were in awful form when they played Wigan in the semi and only just beat them. I am sure we would have beaten Arsenal that day.

Guardian report if Halifax said we stood on terraces caked in mud. As I recall it was just a bank of earth. Worst defeat but Spurs at home and the pitch invasion was worse experience; my mate never attended again.

Best - probably Everton semi final in 69 if only for tommy booth's late winner, but United semi (we just talked yesterday about balotelli's wink), Vienna in the rain, or I remember Blackpool (Monday night?) at home in the early 60s with a Mike Doyle header I then drew in art at school!)

I saw The Guardian article too and it brought back a lot of memories. It was my 25th birthday, I had man flu and if I recall the weather was terrible. The terrace was open and muddy too. The 2013 Cup Final probably exceeds this for misery though.

I remember a home tie against Lincoln City when we were back at Maine Rd. we lost 2-1 I think. A young Gareth Ainsworth was playing for them and played very well. We were still sinking at that point. I think we were a Championship team at that point about to sink a bit further.

Before the Champions League FA Cup used to be some of the biggest games of the season with the best crowds. And always rubbish pitches away from home in the 3rd round. Used to look forwards to the 4th Round draw immediately afterwards. Putting in on a Monday night spoils it a bit. Saturday or Sunday after the games

Worst game 81 cup final replay.Only went through default because my older brother got caught wagging it a few days before. I was 8 Years old and was paraded in assembly in lily lane the morning before the game and boy I felt a right ****! No fucker else was going though so I did have a element of Charlie big spuds about me. Head was a big Blue so made a big thing of it. Wish I wouldn't of bothered, I got hit on the back with what I think was a can of beer, cried most of the way home, eventually fell asleep but pissed myself!! Ive hated spurs with a passion since. Best game obviously Stoke to win cup closely followed by beating vermin game before..fuck it!! Beating vermin pisses on Stoke!!!
