We had a general astronomy thread going a while back, there's quite a few on here who enjoy it. Not outside but not heard anything about Betelgeuse

Orion's right shoulder - left as we see it. It naturally has a high level of variability in magnitude which probably addresses the OPs question. Or maybe it really is going to blow...
