Better Call Saul

Think the ending will take time to settle, to being good. For me.

The two and a hald filler episodes detoured and distracted bigtime from it. Felt totally unnecessary, could have left them out and wouldn't have made the slightest bit of a difference to the arc.

Overall a fantastic show though.

As an aside, it completely shifts the dynamic of the BB main characters, who become some secondary brief wild ride.

Beautifully written and acted TV show. Such a change from the 100 miles an hour, got to cram all the action in type shows. Always worry that a shit ending is going to leave a sour taste on an otherwise great show. But not here. Rare combination of unexpected but not ridiculous either.

Can’t believe it now but it actually took me two goes to get into it. Sacked it off originally after a couple of episodes and thankfully somebody convinced me to give it another try.

i think jimmy accepts being saul til his dying days. Yeah he saved kim but i also think it was about accepting being saul. Its who he is deep down. Hence everyone calling him saul and not jimmy in nick. Life might he easier on the inside being saul rather than out after 7 years being jimmy

Nah I think you've got that all backwards. Saul Goodman negotiates 7 years in prison. James McGill takes 80 because it gets him his best friend back and the only person who ever saw the good in him.

He rejects Saul Goodman even though it means he's going to die in prison - I don't think this is really subtle either - he literally stands up and tells the judge he's not Saul Goodman he's James McGill when he blows up his plea deal.

Everyone calls him Saul in the prison because Kim's the only one who ever saw the real him. Walter White, Mike, his brother...all of those callback scenes ended in them treating him with disdain. Mike is disgusted he only cares about money - but also that he wouldn't share his regrets like Mike did. Walter says he's the last lawyer he'd ever go to for proper legal advice and berates his time machine question. Chuck is trying to put him off the law because he doesn't think he's worthy of it and is upset that he stole ice from the motel for the groceries.

Kim is the only character in the entire 6 seasons of the show who genuinely likes or loves him, and he'd have lost that forever if he took the deal as Saul Goodman. So he blows it all up, goes back to being James McGill - not Jimmy because that's Slippin Jimmy - protects her from legal consequences of their scam that gets Howard killed and faces up to his actions for the first time.

He even takes responsibility for his part in Chuck's death finally.

And then we see how much happier he is walking through the prison, baking the bread (compared to how miserable he was at Cinnabon as Gene) and sharing his cigarette with the one person who cares about him, giving her the finger guns because he's happy and he knows he'll see her again

I enjoyed the first series but struggled to finish the 3rd episode of the 2nd and not bothered since. Convince me to pick it up again

It's ok but I think it gets overrated by fans. I'm not saying I didn't like it but....you know, it has flaws. It's light hearted entertainment (with some scary dudes).

I think it is anything but light hearted. Overall, rather than in parts, which are what stops it being as draining as BB.

What I think gets it the praise is its depth. Characters you may hate, at times you will feel sorry for. Ones you love, at times you will hate. It offers multiple facets that way, and lets audiences get to their own conclusions. At their own pace. The subtleties and attention to detail are great. A bit too breaking bad heavy for me at the end but I guess that's what many of the fans would have been waiting for.
