Big Tech censorship | Trump Banned from Twitter

Seeing as though my points are not welcome elsewhere in other threads, either through a lack of interest in the points I am trying to make or a because of the sheer hatred of Trump, i will have my own thread to discuss what i was saying in the hope somebody might look beyond Trump and see the point i was trying albeit clumsily to make.

Now I have found someone who gets it, somebody far more eloquent and far cleverer than i will ever be, so maybe if you listen to him you make take notice.

Cant stand him but Morgan has made the point if you ban trump what about those other leaders/dictators.

It’s difficult the whole point of the social media platforms is kind of negated by censorship.

There are certain left wingers who want there to be rules whereby social media sites are responsible for the content of those posting which would effectively make it impossible for them to exist.

I don’t think trump needed to be banned for everyone to know he is an oddball

No, a million times no. Not this lying, self serving twat. Literally denying the reality of the election on Nov 3, indulging the nonsense conspiracy theories of how that election was stolen, posting false information that it was ANTIFA posing as Trump supporters that entered the Capitol building.

I mean come on, what next? Steve Bannon? Give me a break.

Merkel has raised some concerns, why the hell not use that as a starting point rather than an amplifier of the voices that led to where we are today?

There may be a need for governments to regulate social media, but any regulations that would protect incitement to violence or incitement to overthrow a democratically elected government aren't anything I can get behind. In short, I can't think of any sensible regulations that wouldn't have resulted in Trump getting kicked off Twitter for his actions the other day (or long before).

If I knew Merkel had I would have done as I was fighting a losing battle on the other thread and needed allies i could use.

Now it makes my point clearer, the corporations are dangerous and now it is being acknowledged by others.

There are valid points to be made on this, and I suspect we are just at the foothills of this particular journey, Trump aside which is an emotive issue, I can see this being used against a just cause as much as it can be used against someone like Trump.

We can’t leave it to corporations to police this, there has to be a standard to which they adhere and that standard has to be set by those we elect. Equally there must be safeguards against someone like Trump subverting those standards.
