Looking forward to this evening with those excellent music documentaries that bbc3 do on Fridays. Documentary tonight about Billy Joel going to the Soviet Union in the 1980s and the conciliatory effect it had at that time, then straight after there's a concert he played from Leningrad. I like a bit of Billy Joel me. Anyone else a fan? Give it a watch tonight, with a gallon of wine.

Saw him at the arena in November. Was fantastic
Not a big fan myself but bought tickets for that concert to treat the wife and her sister and had a surprisingly enjoyable evening.

Yeah thanks for that, putting sky on to record now. I've seen Billy joel a few times now and still one of my favourites, always remember seeing him at Wembley and Chrissie Brinkley came on stage and he sang uptown girl to her, then the helicoptors from Goodnight saigon echoing around the stadium....proper rock n roll..

I can't say Billy Joel immediately springs to mind if someone asked me who epitomised 'proper rock 'n' roll' to me, but each to their own I suppose.
He is a decent enough songwriter, and his voice doesn't make me want to kill a creche full of kids, unlike the Robbie Williams' and Chris Martin's of this world, so I can live with him.

I think Billy Joel peaked in the late 70's with The Stranger and 52nd Street.

Songs like Scenes From An Italian Restaurant and Zanzibar were fantastic.

I found it difficult to take him seriously after Uptown Girl although Goodnight Saigon was good.

I also peaked in the late 70's.
