not sure if this has been debated yet....but i was wondering what the views on here are about this game.

I have mixed feelings in that I detest and despise utd in all their forms but if we accept that, this season, we are unlikely to be able to finish above them, do we want them to win this game and therefore consign liverpool to a 5th defeat and put them firmly in our sights as a team we can finish above this season?

Some may not be able to concieve of wanting utd to win a game, but I think that our new found status as genuine challengers AND the prospect of the champions league if we can get in to the top 4, should allow us to accept that it is the better result for the club.

or maybe a draw.......;-)

utd will win...liverpool are playing very poorly at the moment...i cant see liverpool stopping uts from scoring...and even if torres and gerrard are fit, i cant see liverpool scoring enough

and to be honest imo a utd win will do us more favours than a liverpool win in the long run

if lucas is playing which i think he will be, liverpool have not got a chance, even with no beach balls
rafa is useless ,

prem top 8 man u (unfortanetly)
cheslea
man city (we got the squad, the manager and the money)
arsenal ( gonna run out of steam)
totenham
villa
sunderland
liverpool

I agree i think a loss for liverpool will do us more good in the long run this season as i really do believe we are a better team as a whole than them but with it being liverpool it wouldn't surprise me if they beat united and it 'kick starts' their season.

i think so early in the season we should not write off our chances of finishing above scum, so for me a scouse win & hopefully a city win will be best for us. the scouse have already lost 4 & will lose a few more before the end of the season, so lets keep the pressure on the scum

1 Man Utd 9 12 22
2 Chelsea 9 11 21
3 Tottenham 9 8 19
4 Arsenal 8 16 18

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

5 Man City 8 7 17

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

6 Aston Villa 8 5 16
7 Sunderland 9 4 16
8 Liverpool 9 9 15

Got to think long term and see us this season competing with Liverpool, Spurs, Villa and maybe Arsenal if they get their usual injury problems. Next season we'll be up with the Rags and Chelsea. So, as vile as it is to say it, Rag win for me...*shudder*.. I'm off to scrub myself with disinfectant.. Nah, can't live with saying that..a nil nil draw with lots of injuries please..

Has to be a United win as best outcome at this stage.

We have an amazing chance to gain another three point advantage on Liverpool this weekend, added to the game in hand we also have, it's the best part of eight points before we even play them.

United winning and us winning do not alter the fact we will still be as we are, hunting down them down.

Do you mean hunting them BOTH down?

Typo!

A win for United this weekend will give us the biggest and brightest opportunity, perhaps for the rest of the season, to exert serious pressure on an established member of top four.

Don't think Liverpool would be able to claw us back, based on our home form, alone. EXCITING.

We need United to win - and we need to do our job - beating Fulham, hopefully by a few goals, to push our goal difference up with top two.

With games against Brum and Burnley to follow, the Chelsea home game could become one of the biggest in recent years in terms of what we can go on to achieve this year.

Hunting United down all the time and with three weeks before the Jan window to recruit world class talent once again.

A draw at LFC v Utd and a win for us surely is a double, gaining on Utd and pulling away from LFC I really dont understand your reasoning

An even bigger test is directly after the Brum, burnley fixtures is the game at Anfield.
Liverpool have Arsenal away on Wednesday after Un***d game and Everton. They could conceivably drop 6 - 9 points whilst we pick up maximum. A win or draw there could leave us 12 clear with games in hand.

A lot of if, buts and maybes; but very likely and very exciting.

L'Pool V Un***d - there's no bad result for us, but probably an away win would be best for our top 4 hopes.

Not really, it's the difference between whether you think we have a better chance of winning the league, or actually finishing in the top four.

United will be in that top four, can you say the same about Liverpool.

Believe me, you will never, ever hate them more than I do, but for the first time in my 30 years of watching City, we actually have a team which is good enough, meaning the small crumbs of comfort and huge satisfaction I derive from seeing those bastards lose, is tempered by what is best for us right now.

Next week, the balance in the universe will restored, gaining nearly as much pleasure out of a United defeat, as a City victory.
