Can you imagine if the FA tried to do that on us? The rags/dippers etc have been doing similar for decades.

Birmingham City will be deducted nine points by the English Football League for breaching profitability and sustainability rules, reports BBC WM.

The sanction would see Blues drop from 13th to 18th in the Championship, five points above the relegation zone with eight games to play.

Losses in excess of £13m per year over a three-year period are not accepted under EFL rules.

An Independent Disciplinary Commission considered the matter on Monday.

this sets a precedent, are rules the same in the premier league?

Why are allowed losses so specific at 13m? Why not 10, 15 or whatever?

Seems extremely specific. Anyone assist?

Yes, but the loss thresholds are higher (£35m per season) and most of the clubs are now broadly profitable due to the size of the tv deal.

The rules are relatively new, so the precedent is set as they are the first club to break them.

Premier League Clubs are allowed to make £35m per year on average over a 3 year period, and the £13m is a proportion of that which is linked to the parachute payments.

Another club good old Harry managed having financial problems, who'd have thought that.

Can anyone name a single professional league club that has gone out of business and genuinely no longer exists in some form? The only one I can think of is Rushden and Diamonds, whose history went all the way back to 1992. This idea that clubs are regularly destroyed by terrible owners is just bollocks. Clubs that 'go out of business' quickly return if they have the fanbase to support it. Look at Rangers. Officially folded and were back in the top flight about as quickly as they could be. Or Wimbledon, whose fans had their club stolen from them (where were the rules to stop that?) and within a few years actually surpassed MK Dons in the league. I find the concept of punishing a club that's in debt with an action that's likely to put them into more debt ridiculous.
